I've just moved to Bowmanville and am finding it hard to find good shooting locations. Is anyone familiar with the area that may be able to suggest ideas. I'm looking for some nice parks, old barns and interesting buildings and that sort of thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

There are lots of old building (many of which can only be shot as details because of the surroundings) in the old main streets of Bomanville, Oshawa, Whitby and Port Hope. Many houses over 100 years old have been converted to businesses of the main drag in Whitby and Oshawa, just wonder off the main streets if your walking in either downtown. For parks and outdoors I spend a lot of time at the Lynde Shores Conservation area which is on Victoria (also known as Baily) between Brock St. and Lakeridge Rd.. Cullen Gardens is know owned by the city of Whitby and should be nice this year. It's located on Taunton west of Brock St.. If you would like someone to go with to any of these locations PM me and I'll show you around.

I have always loved going to Second Marsh and McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve.

I hope to get there early tomorrow morning if the weather cooperate.

Gazruss I'm in downtown Whitby very close to the four corners. I'm always up for local shoots. Send me a PM and we'll set something up.

the boardwalk at Lynde Shores is a good spot for Great Blue Heron's .. depends on the day though, they are not always there. I am a Durham resident too - in Ajax.

If you guys are interested, I was thinking of organizing a Durham region photographic driving tour, starting in Pickering, and working our way across to interesting locations, all in a one day shoot. What do you think?

I'd be up for that. Would depend of when it is. With Easter coming up the next weekend or two are out for me. This long weekend if out me.
I'm in North Oshawa.

Heading to Second Marsh, Thursday at 9:30am with another member. If other's are interested, you can meet us there. Weather should be better than the last couple of days. Will be there for a few hours.

Sounds like a wonderful idea. Please count me in. If anyone needs a ride i have a nice big Hemi Ram truck that can get just about anywhere.

I have been looking at some of the places you mentioned in another post in and around Pickering.

I have just been laid off work, so have some time to wander the next little while :-)

rufusm and I made it out to Second Marsh early Friday morning.
I've been going there for over a year now, since I moved to Oshawa, but this trip led to discovering one of the weirdest things to photograph.

My wife found this little critter on our child a couple hours after my return from Second Marsh.
This very small (3mm) arachnid is the Large Adult Female Blacklegged "Deer" Tick.

Good thing your wife found this critter as it can make you very sick. If your child developes any syptoms, you should get medical attention as soon as possible. The syptoms to watch for are headaches, flu-like syptoms, bullseye rash at the bite sight, and joint pains. It is possible to develope Lyme's Disease from an infected tick.

I have attached a fact sheet about the deer tick which also lists the syptoms, and other info about the deer tick.

Thanks Maureen,

As you can see from the photo my wife got the whole tick removed, likely because it seems to take up to 4 hours for her to become fully attached. Not only did the bite site get disinfected we also went to the doctor, who checked it out and give us cream to use on the area in case. And we are keeping an eye on the area and her for any symptoms.

Wrong Durham. We're talking about Durham Region of Ontario, which consists of the following:
Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, Uxbridge, Scugog, and Brock.

There is a nice trail in North Pickering. Steeles and Whites Road area in the valley. I used to bike there when I was a kid.

Yeah, I would be interested. Would depend on when and how much notice I have ahead of time. Where are you thinking?

There is a lot of good places around where the proposed Pickering airport is going to be, there was a post about this a while ago. I'm open though
