Being fairly new to photography, I'm trying to find spots to take pictures. Being a native of T.O., the obvious ones come to mind, but just wondering if some of you guys (and gals) mind sharing some of your spots?

Also, if there is an existing thread, paste in reply please.

I know this may be actually a tough question if you're new to photography, as you might not have figured this out yet, but... What kind of things do you enjoy or want to be photographing? Interesting buildings? Landscapes? Urban scenes? People? Flowers? Cute puppies? Narrowing down the search scope a little bit might help the other forum members give you some meaningful suggestions on locations. Might even help if you list a few places you've already shot at.

qualdoth, sorry, you're right!

Love buildings and urban, some landscape, outdoor people and candids and travel.

No interest (at least now) Animals or wildlife, flowers, macro or astronomy.

In regards to where I have shot, the typical city skyline from popular spots, Casa Loma, Harbourfront, well known parks.

I'm looking for nice archways, long indoor AND outdoor corridors (mortar or even treed for that matter). I'm game for anything.

try exploring Kensington Market -- well known place to find photographers wandering around aimlessly.

Start at Kings College circle and work outwards from there. If you get stopped say you're a student and it's non-commercial. Make up a project... I'm a student studying the layout of academic campuses and how limiting they are blah blah blah.

There's a super cool archway corridor in the back of one of the campus buildings, just explore beyond the outside. Also there's an enormous inner courtyard across the street, behind the cathedral looking building

Trinity College? Be careful - they don't like photogs there.

PotatoEYE...which building, if you recall? I was downtown today, so I took a little drive around the buildings.

Didn't bring my gear, but I'm planning to put a day aside and walk the campus.

I believe he's referring to Soldiers' Tower which is mapped in the link. Within say 500m-ish of this spot in just about any direction you'll find good stuff. He may mean another, there are a few in the area. He was standing a few metres away from me when I took the shot so I'm guessing that's the one he means. For U of T you should walk, some of the neater stuff is in inner courtyards that you won't see from a car.

Edit: No, I just realized, as I clicked submit, where he's referring, the back of Hart House I think. Which is just around the corner, or within 500m, of the Soldiers' Tower. It's gated and sometimes locked so you're best to try on a weekday during school hours.

ions - that's a sweet detailed shot. Just wondering if I'll get grief if I get spotted with a tripod?

Nope, just remember you're a student doing non-commercial work.

I think this is the courtyard which contains the "supercool archway" corridor PotatoEYE is referring to. Unfortunately I can't be more specific about directions because I can't remember. Maybe when I'm on campus Tuesday I'll try and track the exact location down.

That’s the University College court yard marked with the red box in the map I posted. I believe they close the gate at 9 or 10 PM.
