I'll take the light sensitivity over the shutter speeds.

To dismiss this technology as gear fetishism is shortsighted. As the talk states there are immediate real world applications. And, artistically, light is our currency, this technology allows us to make micro transactions in that currency, if you'll excuse the pun. It's waves and particles! Oh.... I wish I were smart, there must be tremendous opportunity to conduct experiments with slit theory now...

I don't think we are dismissing it.... Or at least I am not. I think its cool, but honestly I leave it up to the engineer types to make it work. For me the end user..... I am happy with what I have in the meantime :)

Some of the applications this could be used in are really interesting.... Such as the medical imaging.

I don't care what's inside, I only care what about what comes out of it. Not sure why the dude is pitching it to the photographers rather than colonoscopers...

As an engineer, this is pretty cool. Like the guy said in the video, it all depends on what artists can do with the technology. Back in the day, a daguerreotype was crazy and exotic science.

OK, that's actually pretty cool. Too say it's only interesting to gear heads is like saying you only use your camera now higher than ISO 1000. As technology approaches new limits, the lower limits find they're way into newer production items expanding our current gear (ie. digital vs. film). Otherwise anyone who has a DSLR is considered a gear head.
