So, I'm finally certain I lost my tripod. It was a nice manfrotto, heavy duty rig with a great 3-axis head and all the works.

After my trip, it just wasn't in my stuff. I was a bit shocked i couldn't find it, so much that I assumed it was just "mixed up with stuff" and assumed I would eventually find it.

Now, a few months later, I've torn everything apart, cleaned out the camper and the storage spot and it's just not here.

The last time I used it was at Mount Rushmore in North Dakota, then we drove back to TO from there. I got some great shots at midnight from the highway down the hill from the viewing area, and I think I left the tripod on the side of the road in the dark!!! Seriously!

Someone got a nice free tripod the next morning. Lame!

Rushmore is such a busy area too, I'm sure someone picked it up. Too bad life isn't like that VISA commercial where someone leaves their camera on a cafe table and it's still there a day later. lol

Nice shot by the way. :) I was there last year on my way to Yellowstone

Nice photo!

After using bright red bags for all my gear and still forgetting stuff I moved to putting things on a plastic sheet...haven't lost anything yet using that method. In my waist strap I always carry a flashlight to scan if I'm shooting in the dark.

I am very familiar with the search all over your house for gear part....I look for stuff more than photograph.

Sorry to hear about the loss, however, because of your post I just put my name/address on my tripod.

Sorry to hear that..... I lost my SB800 Flash the same way! I hardly ever used it, so didn't really even notice that it was gone. And then when I finally had a serious look for it... nowhere to be seen.

Many years ago I got drunk on the shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto with my boss at the time. We each had 6 or 7 tall cans of Asahi Dark on the shortish trip, I can't remember how long it was (did you see the number of beers I had?). Anyway, when disembarking I left my new, at the time, Manfrotto tripod in the overhead compartment. Being Japan it was found by someone who placed in lost and found. A phone call to the transit company resulted in the tripod being mailed back to me at my office in Tokyo the following week in a lovely box gift wrapped. Literally gift wrapped. Gotta love Japan. Domo arigato gozaimasu fine sir or madame that found and returned my tripod. I still have and occasionally use it 12 years later, but I haven't been on any bullet trains since to lose it again.
