I was in a middle of a shoot today, at the gladstone hotel then i get the FEE, error message, I had turned of the nikon 90 and removed the battery still FEE error message then removed the lens still FEE error message, then i asked one of the guys to test out my nikon 50mm 1.8 he then got the FEE error message.

How to prevent this from happening in the future.

Oh btw I bought the nikon 50mm 1.8 at aden camera on feb 14, 2012

Make sure the aperture ring on the lens is set to the smallest: f/22. There may also be a switch or a tab or something to lock it.

That error is 99.9% associated with an aperature error

It could also be the contacts -- you can clean them with an eraser. Worked for me on a new lens on an early re-mount.
