So I dug up a few old threads on this topic: http://www.torontophotographygroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14155&hilit=resolutions and http://www.torontophotographygroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14153&hilit=resolutions, and found I had little of my own photographic resolutions.

2011 in review:

1. Buy less camera gear. I feel like I bought less, but I don't want to break down the list because I don't think it works. Next year, Nex 7, and if the a900 successor comes out I think that's all I would want. Didn't need anything at xmas.

2. Take me way out of my photographic element. I've delved into the photographic realm of nude and erotic photography, so I think that is a definite checkmark.

3. Learn to post process. So I went kinda crazy on this. I finally got Lr (and actually paid for it, legit), two IPS monitors, etc. Almost worked out an importing workflow (still a kink or two to work out), and got a new laptop in December to help me learn better from others.

4. Shoot more. My Lr Catalog says I have just over 10000 images for the year, a marginal increase over previous years.

2012 goals:

1. Shoot more.

2. Improve on my PP.

my 2012 goal/objective

- Improve Workflow: I am not talking about workflow in post-processing... I am talking about from the 1st time a prospective client emails/contacts me for a quote to the delivery of the final product/s.
- Be more creative: When shooting weddings, I tend to stay in my comfort zone. I would like to be more adventurous in SOME of the shot selections in 2012
- Expand: I would like to expand my services to other photography related contracts.
- Be more 'Social': Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, etc..
- Work on my blogging skills: Yes, I believe it is a skill to keep and have a successful blog.
- SEO: My goal is to get the #1 on Google/Yahoo/Bing

In 2012 I would like to secure more exhibition opportunities for the work that I have been doing.

I would also like to start teaching workshops, and making money spreading my knowledge. :)

Mine (member, btw, a while back, resurfacing under a different account since I gave up figuring out how to access my previous one!):

1. Discover what gear I need for what I want to shoot *now*. I'm starting from scratch, as it were, having sold my whole FX system and bought a D700 and a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G. Looking forward to some gear-rental weekends in the spring and summer, prompted by those "if only I could frame it like *that*" moments.

2. Stop waiting for time-for-art to appear out of the morass of other things to do. Create that time instead, by doing less of some other things and being more efficient in others.

3. Return to some of the projects I abandoned or put on hold and find out which still hold interest for me.

4. Start thinking toward exhibiting again, more likely in 2013 than in 2012.

5. Hang pictures in my own home. I have so much I've acquired from other photographers or printed of my own, but I've hung so little of it. Of course, most of it is waiting for walls to be repainted ...

For me, doing this became very motivating in continuing to push me to go out shoot, process, print, etc. There is something to be said for having great prints on your walls and knowing that it's your own work. Do it!

For a second I thought it read "New Gear's Resolution" (I must still be drunk).

1. Continue working to complete a project I finally started last year.
2. Do something very different, do one one collaboration project/photo with at least one other photographer. This will be hard for me since I'm very used to working on my own, but I want to force myself to grow in new ways.
3. Sell at least one print that isn't client based or a landscape/cityscape photo.

Well despite last year's list, I managed to accomplish just 2 of my goals.
Quote:
My goals for this year:
1. Start a 365 project - of currently undefined subject - and finish it in 2011
2. Publish at least 1 photo per week outside of the 365 project
3. Build a better online gallery for my portfolio
4. Buy a new body (Nikon if anyone has any suggestions)
5. Add a fisheye or other small focal length lens to my pack
oh and 6. I want to get a light meter methinks.

I don't know how I feel about the 365. I still haven't come up with an idea for a base theme.
So instead this year I'd like to count one "good" shot for every day of the year.
I guess that covers one and two of old.
3: success... for now.
4: lamed out on budget and got the D7000. Maybe the end of this year will be full frame?
I got about as wide as a d-format can get, so clearly, F format required.
I'm not so sold on light metering.
Instead I'd like to expand my photographic horizons, be a second shooter for a wedding or two this year and see how I enjoy that work.

I never could get into the idea of the 365... Because I'd rather have 50 great shots, then 365 average images that I felt forced to have to produce.

I'm pretty sure that the D7000 is in my future, but so are new tyres, new furnace, new car -- and with all of the fun I've been having with film cameras, I could never justify spending that much real money on another digital body.

So, logically, it should come out of here:

Somewhere in here... by ofermod, on Flickr

Thus, the resolution would be to realise that I haven't needed coin-op laundry for the last 14 years...

I just need to start shooting more. In 2009, I uploaded 274 photos. In 2010, 312 photos. In 2011, a measly 33 photos.

I would recommend it to anybody...especially those who do not already have 50 great shots.

I finished 368 days ago and the list of what I gained was long, the least of which relates to hit rate. The list of what I wouldn't be able to do is even longer....I would probably have lost more then 50 photos that make me do a little happy dance inside today!

It's the forced part that makes it all work. Ask anybody 259 days in.... I didn't hold myself to a theme...I held myself to a quality, proof that I'd learned something, no matter how small, from the photo before it. I still have a lot to learn.

I began to see the world differently...seeking beauty...so I didn't have to go home and set up lights.

Why not do a 52 if you'd rather have 50 great shots? wink wink nudge nudge

I just finished one up on Dec 31st and there was a few days that produced blah photos in the start, but as it got near the spring, and got warmer, it got easier and easier. I shot sunrises, sunset, flowers, landscapes, details of things, auto racing, railroads, buildings, beaches, Christmas displays etc etc

Prior to this all I shot was racing. It taught me how to walk in somewhere and "see".

It was fun, but ate up alot of time, although I did learn alot of things about my local area I never knew.

I did probably 2/3rds of the photos with a Panasonic LX-5 too.

I posted them on facebook for a few select friends to see, and each photo had a descrpition, for those not familiar with the area, and they will all be put into a Blurb book for myself.

This years plan is a small model railroad layout that I can then take outside and photograph at some point.

That and either some hardcore racing shooting or hardcore railroad shooting.

I am not making any specific resolutions for 2012. But I do want to get out and take more photos then I have in the past. Buying a higher quality point and shoot type camera will definitely allow me to get out more and take great photos with little weight! I also want to get my ass in gear and process photos from the past summer (especially my Newfoundland trip photos). I am also going to try my hand at blogging this year (photography related of course) and will see how that goes.

I find quite often when you set very lofty goals (like a 365) it just all goes pear shaped at some point (a few years ago I attempted a photo a week and that did not even make it past more than a couple of months) lol. Although to those that can actually stick to these very lofty goals all the power to you!

Don't worry, you will shoot more with 14fps full size camera for sure.

1. Become better at street photography, feel more comfortable shooting strangers (get-up-close-and-personal shots)
2. Wake up early for photoshoot
3. Stop spending so much money on gears... sigh

bit late for new year's resolution, but better than never!

1. I couldn't commit to a Project 365, but I do want to complete my Project 26 (1 picture for each letter of the alphabet). Not an earth-shattering ambition, I know, but I want them to be good shots and to say something.
2. Use the gear I have
3. Compete at local fairs etc. I intended to do this last year but failed to get my backside in gear!

1. Shoot more!!!!! Only problem is I need to have an idea and be inspired.... I dont find shooting random images worthwhile for me.
2. Get a Wdie Angle. So many times, I back up for a shot only to a. back up against a wall, or b. trip over someones dog.
3. Create a website/business card.... not to make money, but to have a presence.
4. Meet other photographers, make up artists, and models.... NETWORK!!!!
