I have been enjoying the Rogers' provided Flickr Pro account for years and this month I lost my Pro account with Flickr. It is asking me to upgrade. Anyone else running into this issue? I am going to call Rogers about this but thought I will check if anyone else has the same problem.

I wonder what the criteria is for getting the free Pro account. I thought as long as you are a Rogers internet customer, you get a free Pro account. Is that changed?

Yes, I believe Rogers stopped that a while ago. Personally I would decide if you receive any real benefit from the pro account vs the non-pro account. For me I didn't see much benefit so I went with the free (non-pro) account but then they gave me a 6months pro-account for free ... but that is another story :)

That changed in July 2009.

You must have gotten lucky and fell into a black hole for a while there.

I don't know if I should feel lucky or feel cheated. I always thought Rogers is using Flickr to replace the photo album feature that they removed. Now I have to pay to keep all my photos on Flickr, that is just not fair.

If you ever need to download all your images from flickr quickly you can use this program. As the name implies it can also migrate from one photo site to another.

Consider yourself lucky - we all were served notice 2 years ago. At the time I was peeved - and probably still should be. ONE of these days I'll give Rogers the middle finger and go to teksavvy (spelling?). I've been paying the small annual fee for flickr. I am not too happy with the way flickr displays the photos - too small and they add additional sharpening (to my eyes). I had always been looking at smugmug or zenfolio but ultimately stayed with flickr because of the community aspect - ability to share photos in like-minded groups.

But now that 500px is in the mix I've been looking at them. I am still trying to get an idea of how that site works/feels/displays - I noticed TPMG

i got the free Pro account when i signed up for Rogers over a year and a half ago and it's still free for me. I guess ive gotten lucky so far.

Once the CRTC hearings finish and Techsavy find out if they still have to cap internet usage or not, i will decide whether to switch to them.

I am also looking at 500px soon.

I'm with teksavvy and switched to third party after Rogers cut off its affiliation with Flickr.

Anyways, my teksavvy is awesome, 15mb download speeds 200GB cap and all for $48 a month after taxes.

Netflix runs free at my place with huge uploads/downloads and media streaming. Haven't hit the cap yet and NEVER an extra charge.

I really need to check out teksavvy now. My son has been pilling up net usage with his online gaming and youtube music watching/listening. Last month the over using was something like 20-30G and Rogers was going to charge me an arm and a leg but they gave me a one (and only) time credit and said they will charge me if it happens again. They are really trying to give me excuse to give them the boot.

With Teksavvy I know that if I want the unlimited bandwidth I can call them up and get my plan switched to unlimited for about another 7$/month after taxes too.

Worth considering.
I've also used Acanac, but find that their plan at a similar price point really bogged down with more than one user.

I'm with teksavvy; unlimited cable plan (15mb/s). they don't throttle EVER which is nice cause there is never a slow down.

I used to be on their other service DSL plan (300g limit) and never got hit with oversusage. and there was over usage pretty much every month since my parents use the same connection for their IPTV box. this is where the lack of throttling really helps - it used to buffer all the time. now its a nice stream of 720p no matter what time of day it is :)

I have to say though that customer service has kinda dropped - they used to be really good; and help out. now they just create a ticket and push it off to bell/rogers to fix. This is usually after they call you back (make sure to leave a message) since they are busy with other callers.

i'm with Teksavvy as well after i had enough of Bell's BS. i paid less than half of what i was paying from Bell and have an unlimited access to streaming/downloading/etc.

but i do notice the throttle-ing and when i called up Teksavvy they said it's Bell doing it as i have a DSL instead of cable. i still love it coz i pay less.

TekSavvy is pretty open about their MLPPP option which nullifies Bell's throttling. At $4 a month extra it's great value to stick it to Bell and their throttling ways.

Not to rat out your son, but youtube and gaming doesn't add up to 20-30gb's unless he's downloading a crap tonne of new games or full length HD movies.

not really. a 4-minute HD clip can run around 150 meg. 20 gig is nothing

ok, TekSavvy looking really good. If I give Rogers the boot, does it mean that I will lose my email ID as well? It would be a pain since I have been using that for everything for a while now and I will have to update it at many places if my email address changes.

Might not be enough but Rogers increased the Extreme max GB to 100 last week (from 80). no extra charge that i can see. they didn't ask me either. Just sent a pop-up message.

I'm in the same boat as you. I got so much stuff registered under my @rogers email that to make the move to Tek I'd have to spend a couple hours rerouting to another email address. I should've done it all to my gmail account from the start. ARGH!

4 friends have made the jump to Teksavvy and they're all loving it. Each of them said that Rogers tried to sweeten their current deal to keep them as customers but in the end, they all told Rogers to piss off.

I know, I should have stick with hotmail or gmail. It is not impossible but it is a royal pain to switch. I think I am going to start switching my email gradually so it is less painful and when that is done, bye bye Rogers.
Does Teksavvy use Rogers and Bell's infrastructure to provide their service?

+1 for Teksavvy and if you sign-up and tell them someone sent you, that person gets a $1/Mo. credit.

Someone mentioned their TS plan is 200GB - mine was too but they changed them all to 300/GB for the same price. They also have no metering system as of yet, therefore they are not enforcing the bandwidth caps as of yet. I have been on TS cable for roughly a year and the service is fast and reliable.

Tell 'em Jamesy sent you
