Hi All,

I realize that this may have already been answered somewhere on these forums (i did a search but didn't find anything), so if it is, please feel free to point out my ineptitude.

I've recently been asked by a friend who runs a home staging business about the price of my photographs and what I'd charge for framed, matted copies of my photos to put in homes that go on the market, as well as for general interior decorating services (for non-staged homes).

As such, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to charge. To be frank, I've never sold photographs before (everything I do is to satisfy my own personal hobby). To that end, I'm looking to see if anyone has advice on this front. Obviously I would need to cover the cost of the printing, the frame, the matting, travel / time to get it all done, etc, but what about charging for the photograph itself?

It seems like finding this sort of information online is quite difficult -- in fact, most of the information I am finding relates to selling digital photos, or licensing your photos, etc. I fall into a different category here (one-off framed photos).

In terms of the clients buying them / hanging them up in their homes, and what they can afford, they tend to have significantly high salaries (or so I am told). Some of them apparently have their home staged just for a party!

In any case, I welcome any sort of helpful recommendations anyone has.

Thanks,

Craig

If you feel like you don't want to make any money, price them at printing/framing costs. Otherwise, price them at how much you want to make from them, be it 30%, 50% 100% it's your choice. OR send the guy to me

Hey, it's the best you'll get on any forum, might as well take it  name your price to the friend and negotiate

i'm constantly amazed at the semantic capacity of the english word "friend"--how the heck can it fit "charge" and "negotiate"? 8)

reality check: he can easily find beautiful mass-produced artwork to hang on those walls at half of what you would need to break even

Hi Vilk,

No doubt, but the idea is that the end-client doesn't want mass-produced artwork. I'm well aware of what someone can buy at ikea for 30 bucks!
