Hi,

Okay, so help out a clueless photographer. I'm not overly familiar with photofinishers in Toronto as I usually have mine done in Peterborough, where I live. However, I've gotten a request from someone in the States for a print of one of my photographs as large as it can go.

It's a 17854x6500 file, and according to what I've read online, that should be printed to a max of 60 inches (correct me if I'm wrong?).

I just looked at Vistek and Pikto's sites and prints of that size are running about $250 and up. Of those two places, which would you recommend? Or somewhere else?

And shipping? I would never want to roll a print, but I don't see how else I could. Any recommendations?

And as far as pricing goes.. double the combined shipping and printing cost? I've never charged so much for anything before.. ha..

Thank you!

Not in Toronto but I've used ImageKind (ImageKind.com) and Mpix (Mpix.com) with good results.

i print my photos at downtown camera. mind you, i do it because i do their 3-day print on "nothing fancy" paper for $9 or so. To me, it's the right balance between quality and price.

wait is it a 17854x6500 file nativly or after uprezing? cause sorry but a file of that sise could be much MUCH larger than that. at those sises most print shops print at 150 PPI (and if you send them in a 300PPI they will half it to make the printing faster) No joke i have worked at two large printing shops and ya.

my point being just pick the sise you like. at that file sise i woudent worry about "maximum" printing sise.

I would recommend Costco if you're a member. They have new poster sizes up to 24x36 for only $21.99. I printed a 16x20 and was very satisfied with the print out.

If you want to go bigger then you'll have to go with the other suggestion.

Good Luck.

I wonder if Gerardo @ theframingdepot can help you out? He's a member here on the forums.

The size I posted is the original file size. It's a composite of several 18MP files.
The sizing guides I'd found online said divide the dimensions by 300ppi and you get the max printing size in inches.

I'm not looking for bulk prints, just one very large print.

Thanks for the tips!

I've used them for a few large prints (over 24inches) and the quality was very good.

I find this place pretty good. It's in Mississauga so that may be a bit far for you.

Elevator is one of the best around from what i've had done. Did a nice 30x46 inch print from a 10mp file and the quality is great and the service was also amazing.

With those dimensions, it looks like this is an extended landscape photo as well. 17854x6500

you may want to just go down to Kinkos as well. They have lots of options for banners including indoor and outdoor materials and is typically priced by the foot based on a given width of their plotter. I think it was ~$1-3/foot for regular paper on their 60" wide plotter.

I've printed out 5'x10' banners with similar resolutions... at 150dpi, you should be able to go 43"x119" or ~4'x10'

Go BIG or go home is what I say!

It is not in Toronto, as I don't live there, but I get all my stuff done at www.highlandergalleries.ca

They do fine art prints, and since its a small owner run biz, you know it thrives on quality

No, I guess you didn't mention the actual store, but the intent was there, as most of us know where you work, and what you offer - as this has not been the first time the subject has come up. I appologize if I overreacted, but I prefer that people do not advertise their professional services here at TPMG whether directly or indirectly.

everyone here posted printing companies. some even posted the price lists. in a way, this is advertising, no? these people could easily be working for the companies they posted.

does this rule actually mean
"You can advertise other companies, just not your own?"

i have seen 'self promotion' here TONS of times and contents weren't removed.

You can suggest places to go and do business and share pricing, you cannot as a representative of the company, get involved in a public discussion of what your business offers. If you wish to further discuss this, please send me a PM.

I'm sure Gerardo can help. I have used Gerardo's company in the past and have been very happy with the service.
