If so, what is your average range of revenue per year?

Also - what commission split do you receive from each sale?

My understanding is that Getty/flickr takes between 60-80% of every sale - is this consistent with your split?

I've never had anyone ask me on Flickr, doubt there is a lot of people getting that. I know a couple of people who sell a lot on microstock

I get the occasional request to purchase usage rights to some of my flickr images but I don't actively sell or do stock work.

I know people don't usually pay for artistic photography, mostly just for sports/celebrity/stock kinda photos, so I am not surprised

Most photo agency have a 50/50 split some even have a 60/40, 60 to the photographer. I know a couple of photogs who shoots for Getty here in T.O. and depending on what they shoot, they'll be paid a striaght quote or a commision based on sales or both.

My experience with the agencies I deal with is a 50/50 split. I guess the Getty/Flickr deal gives less to the photogs on Flickr, because most are hobbist and would jump at any amount for thier photos.

Also with Getty being the biggest photo agency in the world they seem to be locking out other photogs not with them for all types of events. So maybe it'll be a matter of time before Getty changes thier 50/50 deal to a 40/60 or even less to the photog.

As for the average revenue per year? The last 3yrs, about the price of a D700 - D3. :D

I was referring to this:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/callforartists/

Apparently Getty has been inviting flickr users to participate and they also started this group for users to submit for consideration.

What I have heard is that the commission split is 60-40 (Getty/flickr user) to 80-20. Wondering if anyone is participating and what commission split they are on.

As one of the people listed in the "views" I don't use either, so I didn't vote. I was interested in the discussion. Odds are that there are more than a few others, like myself.

To date (in the past year and a half I've been with Getty via flickr) I've received somewhere around $1200US in commissions. That's following the 80/20 on royalty-free... I have a number of rights-managed images with them as well - I forget if they're 60/40 or still 80/20. In any event the rights-managed ones earn more but are licensed less frequently.

I'm pleased with it as really, I'm not doing anything with the images myself (i.e. trying to sell them or submit them or print them or whatever) so from my perspective it's free money. I've got 28 images with them now (they send me requests to license new images every now and then and also send out calls for 'themes' every now and then too.

The images have been licensed for use in video productions, textbooks, corporate image, heck MTV even licensed a couple of them for who knows what.

Hamish - thanks for that, much appreciated. Did you submit for inclusion or did they approach you?

they approached me initially - part of I think the first or second wave they did back in January(?) 2009. Picked 10 or so of my images based mostly (as far as I could tell) on "interestingness" ... then we were asked to submit/suggest more images every couple months or so. It's wide open now to the point that flickr contributors (i.e. those they already have signed up) can add a 'license this image through getty' line to their image pages. Of course all images have to go through the usual vetting and model releases, etc. before they'll take 'em.

I too was a person who viewed and didn't respond.

I haven't been approached for a single photo on Flickr - nobody loves me!!
Total sales to date: $0.00
Even IF someone saw value in my photos I doubt I could cajole my dogs in to signing the model release.
