For this challenge, given all the protest talk and such here, on the media, etc. the theme from vkhampi will be anything to do with the G8/G20. Note that any pics must be here no later than 6/30, as this challenge won't run for two weeks.

Happy/safe shooting, especially those who want to shoot the protesters, well with a camera that is.

Typical rules apply.

UPDATE:

Trying to gauge the interest level in these ongoing so check off what you prefer....

Which is weird because I saw a lot of good pictures posted in other threads.

I think it might be mostly due to time restraints. I had a couple that I could put up, but they weren't shot during that time frame, and I wasn't shooting anything during this either

An excellent theme vkhamphi!! Sadly it looks like nobody was aware of it - myself included.

Perhaps a little personal insight may be helpful. I suspect many people, IF they are like me, do not look at the recent 'Challenge' thread. This is the first time I've opened this thread in a couple of months. I would have submitted a shot if I'd noticed it earlier.

Why don't I look more often in to this thread?

Personally I don't need/want specific photo challenges. With work, family, friends and my dogs I find my weekly challenge is finding TIME to photograph, not finding a subject or theme. So spending my precious time on a specific theme is not cost efficient for me. Perhaps others are in a similar boat?

Maybe a good idea might be to base the challenge on a current TPMG event since we know that there will definitely be people taking photos based on that event. So maybe the challenge this week could have been best Social event photo, best Manitoulin Island photo or best Jazz festival photo?
This is pretty much what vkhamphi was doing with this challenge (basing it on an upcoming event). But if the group knew that challenges were routinely themed based on group events then maybe more people would look to see what the current

Something should be done to revive the challenge section or let it slowly slide into oblivion. Once upon a time a challenge would be posted and the photographers would come not so these last months/year.

Agreed - there were plenty of pics that would have worked for this challenge but nothing posted for this challenge. Guessing that these challenges are no longer of interest for people here. If people would like to continue with these challenges, go and vote for your opinion.

Should have separated "no" and "don't care", because while I have no interest in the challenges, that doesn't mean I don't want them to be terminated!

I enjoy these challenges. I just haven't had anything to submit for "Perspective" or Protest related challenges.

How about "Picture of the week" post, where each photographer should post his/her one best picture?

My two cents:
I like the idea of having the winning photo displayed on the front tpmg page.
If this is the award for winning, then may be we can get away from the winner picking the next challenge.
And may be we can link the challenges to official and ad hoc events somehow...have challenge topics that correspond to events taking place during the challenge period...then the challenge will also encourage people to participate in the events and/or encourage people who participate in the events to enter the challenges...

I for one would like to enter the challenges, but never seem to be photographing the subject of the challenges...

Sounds like a good idea we could have one every week, vote for a week and post for a week. Suggest that the only requirement would be that the shot would have to be taken at an adhoc or official event within 3 weeks of the contest (including the week it was running) that way it would be a relatively current photograph.

Another option would be to copy UTATA's Iron Photographer creative challenge.

^^^
... It would be nice if it can be done automatically. I mean that the currently most voted is shown in the front page. And let create the "Picture of the week winner gallery" so the pictures don't sink into oblivion ;-)

I dunno about that, because it will limit you and force you to go to events

31 TPMGers took the time to answer the poll out of how many members, out of how many active members?

Maybe we need a few more columns to find out if it is general or specific apathy:

I don't take polls I'm only interested in talking about equipment Photoshop Rules! 8)

I like the idea of linking the challenges to topics of recent events, but I don't think we need to require that the photos be taken AT specific events...just that the events can help inspire challenge topics and vise versa, in an attempt to get more people doing the challenges...and maybe creating more events...

I think the winner should get a free beer at next social, this will both draw the people to do challenges and get them to go to socials :D

or how about having a "Challenges Administrator" whose only forum function would be:
- following up on the entries
- following up with the submission guidelines
- posting / announcing winners
- polling or creating the challenge
