I have no idea if this is the best place on this forum to post this but I thought I would try it out anyway.

I am trying to find galleries that would be interested in giving someone like myself (who has never been in a gallery before) a shot. Definitely not a solo show but a group exhibit.

If anyone knows of a gallery that is interested in the up and comers I would love to hear feedback thanks.

Find the gallery you might be interested in being shown, and contact them. Most galleries have a portfolio submission system, such as the Stephen Bulger gallery, etc. Some galleries are more than happy to have emerging artists, but there is usually a fee involved for the month, plus the cost of framing your work. It can get quite expensive.

smlg.ca is a good member to talk to about the process.

awesome thanks so much. Thats good to know.

Well it sucks about the fees but I'm sure its something I'm going to have to get used too.

Do you know of any coffee shops or something similar that are willing to just help out an up and comer? Like put a few pieces on the wall or something?

Thanks

Most Starbucks locations will host art -- but there is often a waiting list of a few months to a year or more. Especially the larger ones in higher area's of daytime traffic - for example King & Yonge.

Other coffee shops may host work as well, but you will have to go in and ask them what their policy is. I have exhibited in a coffee shop on Queen West for the past two years during CONTACT.
