Hey all,

quick question. I have installed the latest version of Photomatix for HDR processing on my new laptop. Its working, and I even did a test HDR today just to check. The one thing that is bewildering me is that I can't see a thumbnail preview of my raw images. When I had the program installed on my previous laptop.... I could see them just fine. Is there something I am missing that I need to do in order to make this work?

David

The only thumbnail I see is when I click on Generate HDR and I get to select my images.

yes, that's what I am talking about ..... and all I see is icons no matter how I set it.... it will not show thumbnails of the images. It will only show a preview if I click on an image -- and that is annoying. I'd like to be able to see all of the images as thumbnails.

Ahh, change the View Menu to Thumbnails (furthest right icon on the top) after your click on Browse.

You may need whatever Nikon Raw processor to be installed so that Windows will know to use it for thumbnail generation.

uhm.... how do I find that? I have the RAW support for CS4 installed -- and it works, I have the RAW support for ACDSee installed, and it works great, and Photomatix latest upgrade supports both the D700 and D90 RAW files, and on my old laptop it worked no problem... but that was also Windows XP. Now I am working with Windows 7 - and it seems to be a whole new bag of tricks!

This program should solve your problem, David.

thanks guys, looks like its all working now! I guess Windows 7 is a bit of a different animal from xp, because I never had to do this before.

Now.... I have another question for anyone out there with some CS4 experience.

I have installed CS4 Bridge and Photoshop, but for some reason, I am having issues with opening images in bridge with camera raw, and then opening them into photoshop. I remember having to do something with CS3, but I really don't remember. Anyhow ... I am getting errors when I try to open an image. I used to be able to click on an image, press enter, and it would instantly open up in ACR. It won't do that now. Once open in ACR, It would go directly into PS. That doesn't seem to be working properly either. Any idea's?

Not sure if this helps...

Check your file type association in Bridge under View, Preferences and check what's associated to your Nikon NEF file. If it's not PS, then you can change it there. Make sure you have your CS4 updates. Good luck.

Try Edit, Preference, General, tick "double click edits camera raw settings in Bridge".

Jeez I'm due for a computer upgrade soon.

thanks, ya I have that turned on..... here is the funny thing. Unlike how my CS3 version ran..... I can double click on the RAW file, load it into ACR, but when I press the Open button..... It will only open into PS as long as I have it running! Wheras in CS3, it would launch PS if it wasn't running. I get an error message. I am not sure what is going on, but would like to try and fix it.

Just a followup question... are you talking about thumbnails in Photomatix or in Windows Explorer?

What is the error message? I can double-click on a raw image file in Bridge CS4 to have it open in Bridge's ACR. Then from there, clicking on "Open" will send that image to Photoshop CS4, launching it if it isn't already running.

I'll get back to you later today on that one --- computer is not with me right now. It quotes a number.
