I like the specs on the 7D but would really love a full frame sensor. Price is not an issue, which camera would you choose and why? I want to pick up a second body but can't decide which to choose. I already have a 20D with the 1.6x crop factor.

If price is not an issue, "clearly get them both", and the Nikon D3x, and the Leica M9.

But it's a second body, so what is your first body?

The only reason to get the 7D over the 5DII would be burst rate.

if you shoot sports or any kind of action, go with the 7D

5D mk II's AF isn't that great...its more of a studio camera or weddings etc

apparently the 7D has more AF points and a few more changes...

but the full frame is nice hahaha

i'm guessing high iso's should be about the same...

i love my 5D mk II and wouldnt trade it for anything...except a 1ds mk IV :P

Sadly, I've thought of that...

I do like shooting motorsports so I think the 7D is what I'm leaning towards.

i am in similar situation as well. 300d is a good camera but it is just sooooo slow at everything.

i was actually going to buy an awesome XSI package i saw on craigs and call it a day but someone bought it before me :( after missing out on that deal i decided to just go all out and either get 5dmk2 or 7d. leaning towards 7d at the moment since it seems to be a more well rounded camera for my typical usage at a 1K lower price.

fyi aden has a pre order promo with 16gb memory card bonus. i think i will either get it from there or grab it from US if they don't get the stock in before my trip.

LOL that's what I wouldn't mind either!

The 7D is perfect for sports, I had enough of carrying a heavy 1D around the track. 5D MrkII (or I) for the landscape and everything else.

Depends if you want FF and it's better ISO performance. But you'll miss out on the new 1D series-like features that the 7D offers.

Sounds like the 7D is better suited to your type of photography.

Looks like the 7D wins. Canon is suppose to unveil something Sept 29th, wonder what it is.

I think it was established over at canonrumors.com that the Sept 29 announcement was coming from the business unit - ie, a photocopier or something. not camera.

The real question is what are you shooting?

If money is no object, the 5D mkII is a no-brainer. A full frame body with a general zoom, and crop body as secondary with a tele is an ideal setup.

The 7D is a better choice if you want to shoot 24p video, sports, or you use a tele as your primary lens.

I'm really curious to see if Canon has FINALLY improved their AF system - if they have the 7D my next camera. I have to be honest, after spending a week with a D300 I'm seriously reconsidering my pro-Canon position.

Was at Henry's, sales told me 7D should be arriving next week. Again taken with grain of salt.

Rob Galbraith indicates next week to be the shipping date as well.

In the UK, Jessops already has stock.

If what you really want is a 1D, buy the 7D.
if what you really want is a 1Ds, buy the 5DmII

7D for speed, 5D for resolution.

The 1dm3 has a 30 shot raw buffer, the 7d a 15 shot raw buffer.

However, if you drop the 7d down to mRAW (10mp), then it's a 24 shot buffer according to the manual.

Either way, at 10fps vs 8fps, you're full in 3 seconds. Given that the 50d is already twice as fast as the 1dm3 in writing speeds, except for the fps difference, there's probably a slight edge to the 7d in terms of clearing the buffer and being ready for more shots in actual shooting.

Umm, no, the AF is better on the 7D, 24p if you care about HD video, the customization of the buttons
