I'm just wondering if anyone know of a good place close to Toronto to get pictures of star trails. The purpose of this particular excursion is to 1 get pictures of star trails and 2 watch the Perseid meteor shower, so it's probably going to be the night of August 15.

I found this thread about locations, but I'm wondering if anyone know of any other locations that are a bit closer.

Torrance Barrens is definitely too far.

Long Sault Conservation Area is reasonable and is a location I'm considering.

Are there any other good locations that are roughly the same distance as, or is closer than, Long Sault?

Also, how does the payment system for Long Sault work. Is it like provincial camp grounds where you have to pay for overnight if you stay past a certain time, or do you just pay to go in and you can stay as late as you want.

I found this site about Long Sault, but I can't find any info about how long you can stay.

I know a number of people that go up to the Kortright Centre for start gazing.

Check out the Efston Science observing sessions http://www.escience.ca/resource/astronomy/observingsessions/Observing_2.html

Also, there's a good, fairly popular spot in the parking lot of the Forks of the Credit park. I've been there a couple of times and there is negligible light pollution. The best place I've been, however, is just north of Huntsville, near Clear Lake. Beautiful.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

With the list available so far, I think I would go for the Forks of the Credit one. That's where Church falls is right? Because I wanted to go to Church falls last time I was around the area but didn't get the chance.
