Not too much this time, but I was trying to restrain myself (to save up for the "Big One" in May in Woodbridge).

Another flash with fitted gels (that makes three of them now, four if I can find gels for my 285HV), a safesync for $25 (usually they cost much more), another optical slave, and a used tripod for $15 that uses the same bracket as my other one.

I managed to score a Minolta Rokkor-PG 58mm f1.2 lens in great condition. Now I need to find someone to modify it to an EOS or M42 mount. Does anyone know where to go?

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it?

Chris,

I paid $250 for it. It's in excellent condition. Very clean and very little sign of use. It's heavier than the Canon FL 58mm f1.2 that I also have.

So you're the one who bought it! I almost bought it at one of the shows for my TL-QL.

Typically, no. Although don't be surprised to see people with their orange tpmg tags walking through.

Say hi.

Don't be surprised though if people are distracted by the bargains.

Having never been to one of these shows, are their typically 'deals to be had' at "The Big One"?

If you are looking for old (film) cameras, lenses, darkroom equipment, film, and maybe those random nicknaks this is the place to go.

I also go because I love seeing the treasure-trove of old stuff... it's better than a museum for me.

I don't know if I want to say this as I don't want any more competition, but this show is where I found some of my more interesting photographic gadgets, like my sound activated flash trigger.

These are more individuals rather than companies like the Wooten shows.

The only problem is getting there if all you have is public transit...while they do have a bus hourly from Kipling station starting at 9:30, personally I prefer to take the YRT that goes along Hwy 7 to Martin Grove (except have to walk a few minutes south to get to the Soccer Centre as there's no southbound bus on Sunday on Martin Grove); for me even though the YRT costs money it's easier to get to the Finch terminal rather than Kipling station due to the fact there's no subway early Sunday morning.

Well it was only a one-off...you take what you can get at these type of shows.

Like I said, you have the option of taking the FREE yellow school bus they have from Kipling station hourly from 9:30 I believe; details at http://www.phsc.ca and scroll down the page (don't click on the Big One link as the bus info is further down the homepage). This bus goes direct to the soccer centre.

As for YRT, you have to LEAVE the TTC, and walk one block north from the TTC station to the YRT/GO station (if you're walking underground follow the signs to "Regional Buses"). I'm taking the YRT 77 bus from platform 12 at Finch terminal that leaves at 9:10 (the next bus is 45 minutes later)...bus fare is $3.25 and you pay at a machine BEFORE you get on the bus.

If you're closer to Downsview you can take Viva Orange from there, but I'm unfamiliar with that route.

Note that the YRT & Viva buses only stop at Martin Grove at Hwy 7, and you have to walk some distance south to get to the Soccer Centre (I think it's 10-15 minutes, but only did it once before and didn't time myself; wear good footware for walking).

I take the PHSC bus back though since it's free and the subway is running by then.

I'm looking forward to buying random stocks of film, was just about to place an order but decided to wait out for the show.

I assume that this will be a cash only thing for the most part? Since the sellers are mostly not shops but rather individuals?

That would be a very safe assumption. The nearest bank is I believe a TD (and possibly a few other banks) at Martin Grove/Highway 7.

Definitely assume cash only at this one, and also at the Wooten shows.

Just think of it like a large garage sale/flea market with many sellers.

I have to admit. This is one of my favourite places to get the weird, unusual and hard to find stuff, usually for a good price. As Chris says, this is like going to an old camera museum :D
