So if you went to the PHSC in Woodbridge Sunday, did you get any goodies?

I picked up a modified Vivitar 285 (note, these were quick snapshots taken with a P&S):

The unique feature of this version is the original flash tube is still intact and usable if you remove the reflector, which is done by turning the knob on top to loosen the reflector, and then flipping the toggle switch on the add-on casing...the only thing the flash head is fixed as the zoom head has been removed.

Lots of stuff to look at on a rainy day. I picked up some 4x5 stuff and saw a few others from Toronto there too. Lots of books, strange old cameras and a few deals too.

Avoid the free coffee.. it's horrible and I'm not a coffee snob.
McDonalds is nectar compared to the stuff that was in the urn at the show

Note that the DVP is closed tomorrow, so getting to the hotel will basically suck.

Ya, missed the last one back in January...the day after the show I got the itch to go to a camera show and decided to search PHSC.CA to see if they had any shows listed, and was angry to say the least that I had missed the show the day before!

For those of you who have attended Henry's show in the past, how was your experience there? Was it really crowded? What can be expected as a first-time goer? Will companies with booths set up sell equipment (at a slightly lower price)? Are the workshop lectures worth it?

I attempted to go last fall and I made the mistake of attempting to go early afternoon on a Sunday. I could not find a parking space anywhere and gave up after about 30 mins of trying. So I'm taking Friday off work and going late morning (done the Friday before and it's busy but not as bad as the weekend). My advice is going on sat/sun is go early!!

Henry has all it's stuff on sale there, last time I didn't notice any real special deals from Henry, although there are some deals to be had, depends on what you want. Some of the seminars are interesting, I've usually taken in one or two. Just be aware quite often the people giving the seminars are trying to sell something, I.e. GaryFongs seminar on lighting. Just enjoy the day, try out some cool lenses you can't afford and if you get a deal on something you want, then that's just gravy.

J.

The Henry's show is a great show IF you take advantage of the fact that most of the dealers are there and they may have their tech reps there to answer the questions you aren't getting answered in the forums. Being the owner of a camera just released I've found a few bugs that I'm hoping to deliver to the horse's ear.

As for seminars, some are shortened versions of the ones Henry's offer, some will promote products that Henry sell (like the Gary Fong example), etc.

BTW, Vistek has a show June 19-20 at The Toronto Congress Centre which is similar to Henry's show, except the Vistek show has a much bigger video focus. Also some companies who will be at the Henry's show won't be at Vistek's like Olympus.

Since you brought up the seminars I'll address your seminar comment.
The ProFusion seminars are longer (3 hours as a minimum) in closed rooms and not out on the open tradeshow floor, that's why there's a cost associated.

Any of you get a chance to play with the Canon 24-70 2.8 Mk II at the recent Henry's show? Thoughts?

Only thing is it isn't public transportation friendly due to the start time.

According to the website:
Quote:
GREAT SHOW SPECIALS

Just think, you can beat this year’s Boxing Day sales by a good six months—without having to line up, no less. Special Event savings along with exclusive ProFusion offers will be on offer throughout the show. The sale prices alone are reason enough to visit this year’s show.

When I was there it was more of an upscale equipment sale, rather than bargain accessory. But hey, it's a free day off!
