I forgot to ask the question in my other posting (I am a newbie)
Would you buy the Sony 55-210 from a site like Kijiji, and if yes, what are the potential pitfalls to look out for ?
Thanks again

Yes I would buy lenses from Kijiji or Craigslist.
This is a checklist I follow before buying
1. Meet at a public place.
2. Try the lens with your own camera.
3. Dont listen to anything the guy says and check the lens throughly possible for any cracks, blemishes, scratches, drop marks and dings of any sort.
4. Discuss the price before you meet.
5. If he says the lens is a year old ask him for the proof of purchase(receipt )
6. Ask for the box and everythign which came with the lens so you have them.
good luck

To reinforce - Yeshwanth is bang-on vs bring your own camera to try lens on. Been burned on damaged threads...

These are some good points^^ I've bought camera bodies and lenses from people on Kijiji many times and you assume an amount of risk when you do this. But lucky for us, information is free so there's no excuse to not do your reasearch. Also, a really good tip I got from a guy is to weigh your lenses. I was selling a Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 DX lens and this get brought out his scale and weighed it. He explained that sometimes you come across a 'fake' lens that looks like the real deal, except it's made with a lot of plastic and cheaper material. Be sure to check the specs online and get the weight first because the weight doesn't lie.
