I'm about to talk lots of architecture photos, mostly exterior, and I'm wondering if anyone's had experience with tilt-shift lenses. Is there a difference in results as to software correction? I'm on the Canon system.

No software can beat the actual hardware.
My two cents...

software is only good for very minor corrections. the hardware allows for perfect and actuate images which are much more pleasing. they completely change the optical vantage point and give much more accurate reproductions of space.

If you are doing a lot of architecture photos, I would strongly suggest going the route of using a tilt-shift lens, rather than using software.

That said, why don't you do a few photo test using a "normal" lens and then use photoshop to do software corrections. That way you will get a feel for how good the software approach would work for you/your client. It will also give you a sense of the time and workflow involved in doing it in software.

One thing just came to mind...

Are you using a FF camera or a crop camera? With a FF Canon camera, you have several choices of T-S lenses to choose from.

If however, you are using a crop camera the T-S lens might not be wide enough for your purposes. The problem is that a 24mm T-S lens would become a 40mm equivalent on a crop camera - which might not be wide enough for what you are shooting. The 17mm would become a 28mm equivalent - which might be ok if you get far enough back from what you are shooting and provided there isn't unwanted elements that would become into the image as well.

I had a 24mm t/s lens from Nikon --- I sold it, only because I didn't find I was using it enough to keep such an expensive lens in my gear bag... and I really wanted the DF. Now I am kinda kicking myself, as I could have used it the other day ... but I can do some minor corrections in PS - but what everyone is saying about having the actual lens is so true - much better than trying to correct later in software.
