Olympus plans to stop SLR development. Camera manufacturers face drastically lower sales. Everyone is scaling back.

More a case of camera sales returning back to normal levels as camera image quality becomes good enough.

As people realize that newer cameras don't provide a significant improvement over what they are using now, sales will drop towards pre-digital sales levels.

When I shot film I use the same camera for twenty years. It was only with the infancy of digital that you had to buy newer cameras because they were so much better than the previous model. But we're reaching the point now that newer cameras aren't major improvements...another megapixel here, switches on 0.0001 second faster, who cares.
