I've been thinking about getting this as a walk around camera since it came out. Well the price is right so I just ordered it the other day. Canon probably has a new mirrorless coming out any time now, but at hundreds more:

If only Olympus would have a big, big discount on their OM-D E-M5 mirrorless.......

I was wondering the same thing. They came late to the table with nothing new, and nothing special when compared to the competition (maybe even less). I personally only know one person that had one, and he had sold it 3 months ago. I originally thought about buying it since I have all Canon lenses, but the lack of features for this price point was a deterrent.

We have to remember most of 'round here are not typical consumers that the M would apply to. While yes, it's late to the party and underwhelming, even with the new firmware AF update, it's not for "us." It's for people that see a trusted name like Canon/Nikon, and even Sony now a bit, and think "good enough." They don't care for retro chic and when they do notice it they think that must mean higher difficulty to use than this entry level thing they bought from Canikony. I don't think it's a bad camera, especially now with the fix and the price point, but I do think it's short of the competition. Would I love Canon to take a note from Olympus and make an AE-1 style mirrorless that would take my EF lenses? Damn straight. But, that is something else entirely to the M. Canon, certainly won't abandon it.

I'm using it for scouting and planning my shots. My 5DII and EF lenses are too big and noticeable to carry around every day and everywhere. And when I need it, the 1.6x crop factor could come in handy. I don't need a lot of features. The only thing I wish it has is a remote shutter plug. For $300+ dollars, its a bargain considering it has a 7D? sensor.

Well they've removed the page but not the link:

canon-landing-page-suggests-full-frame-and-aps-c-compacts-are-in-the-works

I believe that this was a mistake by canon web developers that's why the page was removed.

Yes, I saw that after posting. Disappointing.

I ended up buying it the other day as well. Figured it'd be a nice walkaround with the 22mm pancake. Small and pocketable (or can drop it in my purse easily). I'm conveniently in NYC this weekend so I'll pick it up and try it out right away! Seems like a fair price even though there's probably new M models coming out in the near future. But at least with the recent firmware upgrade, the camera's got a little more potential.

Looks like Canon is selling out their inventory of EOS-M. The white model is now discontinued and the prices have gone up by $50.00

Got my EOS-M yesterday so I tried it out today. The 18-55 STM seems to be a reasonable lens, but it gives me more reason to feel good about buying the best lenses. The picture quality is very good. Tried it with my 70-200 hand held giving me an effective focal length of 320mm. I am really impressed with the IS. I would say the focusing feels about the same as my 5DII. The image quality is super. I think I'm going like the EOS-M with my 70-200.

It was a half-hearted attempt by Canon to produce a "me too" camera!

Now they are limiting what EOS-M products will be serviced, or even sold in te US...sounds like they're trying to kill it off:

Mike you just don't like Canon. I don't think you can get a camera of near quality for $300. Besides I can use my L lenses on it. The Canon T4i, which has the same sensor, is more than twice the price and is a lot bigger than what I wanted in a walk around camera. Frankly I have no plans to buy any EOS-M native equipment. And I don't value that guy's rant and I think his prediction that the EOS-M II won't be sold in the U.S. will come up empty.

I just played a movie taken with the EOS-M and 17-40 L lens on my 23" screen. Beautiful, sharp and clear. I rarely do videos, but its good to know the quality is there.

For the record I am forced to use a Canon at work, and a couple of months ago I bought a Canon converted full spectrum (only because it was cheaper than having one of my Olympus cameras converted), and years ago I had a Canon A-1.

But personally, yes, I don't like the images Canon cameras produce, or their menus!

But if I was a full-time Canon user, I'd leap at the Olympus E-M5 or the Fuji before I'd glance at the EOS-M. The EOS-M reminds me of the Cadillac Cimarron...it may have the Cadillac name, but you can't compare it to a real Cadillac!

The Olympus E-M5s available right now are $1000 - $1500. You'll have to go to the 12mpx E-PM1 for a comparable price. Fuji mirrorless start at twice the price. And they won't fit my L lenses. You're comparing Cadillacs with a Volkswagon beetle.

Ugh, By Thom... his technical stuff is decent.. ish. His industry uhhh.... rants? Laughable. I think this camera is going to be a very cheap underdog to buy if it is not already that now. If Henry's dumps their stock in a fire sale I'll pick one up to have a play.

I agree his technical stuff is decent. But even people with decent technical knowledge go on rants once in a while. His predictions are a little outrages for my tastes.

Not a bad price but I think the one to wait for is when they put the new phase detect sensor in the M body. That should be a really great pocket battleship in terms of image qual, vs size.

I agree, but that'll probably cost a lot more than what I want to spend and I would have to wait a lot longer for the price to come down just before another new better model is released.
