Currently I am using a Canon MP610 photo printer. It is about 3-4 year old now. It prints size up to A4. It uses 5 ink tanks (2 black +3 colours). The 5 ink tanks costs about $110 incl. taxes at Henrys. The ink price seems going higher since Canon released newer printer models.

In recent years, the printer's rollers gets dirty easily, leaving some black dot-lines on prints. So I have to "clean" print heads and rollers.

What is your experience with Canon printers? In terms of ink costs, are Epson and Canon similar?

Do you recommend any printer for my next purchase?

Thanks,
Victor

What is your budget, and how often do you print?

I just purchased the Canon Pixma Pro-100. It will do prints up to 13" x 19". There are 8 ink cartridges, 3 "black", 5 colour. Each cartridge is $19.99. The printer is reg. price $499. Was on sale at Henry's for $399. . The colour prints look really good and the black & whites look even better. So far I am very happy with the results. A full set of ink is $180.72. A bit expensive but the prints do look very good.
I hope this was useful.

Thanks for the recommendation, but a large-format professional printer is probably an over-kill for me as I don't print large sizes frequent enough to justify the expense. An A4-size printer is good enough for me.

I just got an Epson 1400 --- older model I know, but it was free. Nice printer! I need to get a calibrator.

i second the epson 1400. it is cheap and cheerful and will get you some amazing prints. smaller printers just dont have the proper set of inks to give you decent prints.

If you can find a used Epson 3800 then go for it. The bigger ink tanks mean a much lower cost per ML.
