A good place to discuss the gear aspects of phone photography. I'll start with a question:
Why noone has put the led flash around the tiny lens in phones, like a ring flash?

I think it's cause the lens is so small that putting a flash around it won't make much difference, it'll still be a harsh source of light (plus the headache for the designers)... my 2centavos

People will buy any tech gizmo do I hear a kickstarter ringlight project. There are some addon lenses so why not?

More realistically no one has because no one has. Also, power budget demands are quite scripted in mobile phones, and building up charge to ignite a ring flash would probably require too much power and possibly too big components that would impede the predominant slim brick design. And then there's Google with their corporate philosophy requiring 23 frivolous patent filings per week: they have a provisional patent describing an LED ring flash for mobile phones.

I am teaching a course at Workman Arts in May along this same topic -- taking photo's and processing them from portable camera's, smartphones, ipads, etc.....
