Do you have a second camera ?
A camera you will take when you dont feel like "Schlepping" the big heavy DSLR with you ?
Maybe take it as a backup ?

Well as a second camera to my DSLR Nikon D7000 I have a Canon G15.
Most of the time my wife has it and officialy its my wifes but its really a super little camera with all options to use it on manual and RAW (not that I use RAW) and is really good in low light and I do take it from time to time when I dont expect any serious need for a camera or is just very lazy at that specific time.

The camera I have next to my Canon system is a Panasonic GF1 (M43). Although, it is questionable to call my GF1 a "second camera" to me as GF1 tends to see more day light in my case.

Since getting an Olympus OM-D, I've stopped using my dSLRs!

OK, my employment forces me to use a dSLR but that's always on a tripod in a studio so I'm not having to lug it around.

Since I got my Fuji x-pro1 I haven't used my DLSR - in fact I'm selling the DSLR!

D800 main body, D7000 backup/second body... V1 also sometimes comes along - although its out for repair right now. And sometimes I bring along the film stuff too. Depends on the shoot. I have 5 different systems.

Not a second camera, but when traveling, I like to bring a small camera such as a panasonic gf3 with a 20 and 14. I did that for a few weeks last year and it makes a huge difference when backpacking.

Wow, what an interesting array of second cameras, keep them coming it really is great fun to see how different the approach is from different people.

A Fujifilm X10 fits nicely in my bag when I'm shopping or off to meetings or some other local non-D700-friendly outing. My 12-year-old son thinks of it as "his" camera, though. I reminded him this week that it's not only his ... and told him that it's coming to my Cuban all-inclusive break later this winter, so he'll have to get used to that idea. Told him I'd test out that "beach" setting for him ;)

Some of us own several systems and carry whichever one suits our creative mood.

For example, the lighter counterpart to my D80 rig is my F80 rig.
For concerts where any SLR is inappropriate, I have a relatively tiny Canon S95.
My lightest and most productive of recent memory is a tripod, 6x9 folder, and a light meter.

Not a second camera exactly but I use our Nikon P7000 when I'm unable to use a DSLR such as to concerts and such.

May I recommend this when your DSLR just doesn't have the size to make you look like a true professional :)

Have D90 .. using 150 - 500 ...needed something light weight for those unexpected mushrooms, flowers, berries ... while out shooting birds.
Just bought Nikon P510. Really like the 40x zoom and super in low light at high ISO and easy learning curve with many menu options similar to the DSLR.

I love mine - but it's also a little quirky and depending on how and what you shoot may not be a DLSR replacement. I didn't buy it to replace my DLSR, it just wound up happening.

I heard its a fantastic camera with 2 main issues.

1.Focuses a little slow
2.Not cheap

But its low light capabilities are very good.

I picked up a Fuji X10 to use along with my aging Sony A700, but now I hardly use my Sony. Can't wait to get the new X20 as soon as it's in stores.

I shoot a 5DMKII (would love to upg to MKIII but don't shoot as much as before to justify the cost) and a 1D MKIV as my second. I'd like to get a P&S sometime.

I have a D600 as my main.

I have 2 other film cameras though. An M6 an a Contax Aria.
Since I am not a pro, I sometimes pick a random camera to use and leave the other 2.

I have D800 as main and Sony Nex-3 as second.
I only use D800 for wedding work while Nex-3 goes with me everywhere.

Olympus OM-D, with several lenses. I generally either carry it, alone, or along with my Olympus E-5 and some sort of long lens.

Most of the time I can't be bothered to carry my DSLR so I usually bring my little Fuji. Great walkaround rig.

Image

All kidding aside, I picked up a NEX-7 last year for travel and other times that I didn't want to carry a backpack with me. I still use my DSLR for "serious" stuff and I also get a lot of mileage out of a film rangefinder and MF SLR (NOT the one pictured above!). Horses for courses.....

I have a D800 as my main work for studio (I am a student, so D800 is more than enough for me), and also a D90 just in case.
For family and weekend snapping i just use my trusty little Leica D-lux 5 (Panasonic blah blah), and it's amazing =)

I use my trusty Canon 450D/xsi when I want to lighten my load. Much lighter and smaller than my 5dii. I just put my 50mm 1.8 mk1 on it. Light as air. I like to use this combination with a couple of radio triggers and a flash. I use one hand for the camera and hand hold the flash pointing it exactly where I want.
I've been meaning to get a GX1 or something comparative maybe even a mirrorless. Something with alot of manual controls. However, I always end spending the money on a DSLR lens instead.
