The Others, Third Party Resource, News and Discussion Page!

Like the other Resource, News and Discussion pages post anything you hear or would like to discuss about the "Third Party" manufacturers. Mods will try and keep this top post up to date with relevant links.

The Other Camera Manufacturers

I don't mean this negatively, just a place to collect the smaller manufacturers...

Ricoh / Pentax
Panasonic
Olympus
Leica US
Hasselblad

Third Party Suppliers

Samyang Optics Korea
Sigma Canada
Sigma Global
Tamron Canada
Tokina Lens
Tamron Global
Zeiss Lenses
Lensbaby
Schneider Optics

To start things off:

News about the new (2012) Sigma 35 1.4: http://www.petapixel.com/2012/11/07/sig ... r-via-usb/

Looks interesting...they've got a couple other new ones. I like this one. Going for a Zeiss look to the barrels I think. Looks good, will have to see how it performs.

Updating/tweaking the lens through a usb port is innovative.

Cool! Finally a FF alternative other than buying the Canon L version.

interesting -- I'd be interested to check it out, as I finally got rid of my 35mm DX lens recently, and purchased all new 1.8 full frame SWM Nikkor lenses (Nikkor 28mm, 50mm, and 85mm)

Actually think it's cool that sigma has a usb port for fine tuning on this lens.

Now their legendary poor quality control can be fixed by the end user.

Surely they will have less product returned.

^ had 2 cotton soft ex lenses that produced yellowish images and a flash that couldn't out perform a pop up.

Was enough for me to give them a wide berth.

Photography on the Net Sigma 35 1.4 DG HSM Sample Image Thread. Canon based forum but you can get the idea.

Beyond a bit of onion bokeh I quite like the results people are getting on this lens. But, like pourmeaguinness, I am a little reluctant to go Sigma again. Which is a bit unfair of me I guess. I've had three of their lenses and liked them all. Any issues I had were dealt with quickly and well by Gentec. I do like the Canon equivalents I replaced them with much better (that were much more expensive of course).

Price of Samyang 24 T/S revealed in Russia, conversion is approximately $1100USD. Supposed to hit retail in March 2013. Maybe T/S for the rest of us?
