Yes the title of this thread is my feeble attempt at a double entendre. Anyway I thought you might enjoy seeing what happens when a hockey puck flies dead centre into a cameras lens at a NHL game. Great slow-mo video.

I wonder how many viewers flinched when watching that scene live at home

Youtube suggested I watch this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0MQLmce ... re=related

It says "breaks goalcam", but the actual video camera is higher in the net and it doesn't look like much was broken to me.

What I see is (I think) a D2X with a Nikon 10.5mm fisheye lens and a Pocketwizard (looks like a Multimax set for remote triggering). I think the glass housing it is mounted in was broken, or simply forced open, and the pocketwizard (still attached) dropped to the ice.

Still, funny to see the guy bending over still camera gear while fixing it.

What camera guy are you guys seeing?!
Neither of those videos show a camera who has an operator anywhere near by.
The camera above the back of the net in the first video looks like it's had it's filter and lens fairly well destroyed.
They stock lots of those for just that reason though.

The goal cams on the other hand are inside fairly durable housings. The most that typically breaks on those is the plexi-glass cover they have, and then the mechanical controls for it's operation.

No matter what, I'm sure they pay to have all the equipment insured for these rare instances anyhow. So when something happens, the most worry is for their own safety. And alexanderhosking is right, they likely have enough backups.
