I want this to be true... Who knows what they'll ask for it though.

PetaPixel Picks up the story.

Canon Rumours is seeing more smoke about the 14-24.... Possible January announcement along with the 35LII. Fingers crossed, both would be nice to see. Particularly that wide angle...

Peta Pixel with a eulogy of sorts for the 5DII.

For all the knocks this camera now takes from the spoiled & self entitled, me included :D, it really is a tremendous milestone in photography/video.

History of Canon from Canon.com starting from 1933.

Quote:
When asked about his motives in disassembling a Leica to produce Japanese made high-grade 35mm cameras, Yoshida explained in later years:

"I just disassembled the camera without any specific plan, but simply to take a look at each part. I found there were no special items like diamonds inside the camera. The parts were made from brass, aluminum, iron and rubber. I was surprised that when these inexpensive materials were put together into a camera, it demanded an exorbitant price. This made me angry".

Determine the Age of a Canon Lens

Canon Rumours says Canon Sells More DSLRs Than Anyone Else in 2012. Interesting to me because I thought Canon was outspec'd and out-released by the competition body wise this year. I wonder how well they would have done if they had got the 6D to market earlier in the year.

Quote:
An interesting note about Canon, if you remove the lowend of the DSLR market (Rebels, D3xxx/D5xxx), Canon’s marketshare increases. I imagine the 5D Mark III plays a big part in that, as well as the EOS-1D X.

Also interesting, I thought removing the Rebels would decrease Canon's marketshare.

MTF for Canon 35 f2 IS published. Decently sharp says the chart but other than the video benefits of the IS I would definitely be looking at the Sigma 35 1.4 for just a bit more money myself...

Lensrentals Tests and Compares the Sharpness of the 24-70 f4 to the two Canon 24-70s and the new Tamron and comes to a wise conclusion.

Canon 35mm f/2 IS Lens Compared to the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Lens. I've seen some image comparisons, I forget where or I'd post em, and I actually find the out of focus rendering by the Canon a little better. So, if I were comparing them for purchase I would look at the Canon a little more closely than I initially thought. If/when the 35L II comes out we can probably expect amazing the way Canon has been going lately. Expensive too.

I've been waiting, what, a couple years for it now...and at this point I figure a certain someone more sensible and practical (and who now has claim to half of all I have) may object to me spending 12k+ on one piece of equipment for a hobby I'm not even all that good at...
...may object...she does spend a LOT of money on hair products, eh

Lol. Certainly you do the books in that house and have the acuity to sweep a purchase under a proverbial floor covering. :D

Edit: that is a joke, I would never promote dishonesty in such a relationship.*

*unless the gear is really really cool like a 200-400

This interests me as an alternative to getting a small mirror-less camera as a grab and go snap shotter...
