in case Canon users wants to look for an "economical" way for radio flash triggering that supports ETTL and HSS:

5DMkIII inching closer to a reasonable price - can now be found at the usual suspects for $2799 body only.

So the 24-70 f4 IS looks to be a reality. All you whiny pansies going on about how heavy the 24-70 2.8 is need your asses kicked. We could have had a kickass 24-70 with IS roughly the same weight as the first version. Instead we've got a lens that should have IS and a useless lens for the weak. I blame the pansies and Canon for listening to the wrong people. Jerks. :P Anyway, apparently this 24-70 is going to have a MFD of .2m. That's a nice spec, both the Mk I & II have a .3m MFD.

Canon is also apparently releasing a 35 f/2 with IS and a new 50 is coming. All Canon Rumours speculation but it looks imminent and wouldn't be surprising.

I guess the bright side of these announcements is they don't hurt my wallet.

The increase in msrp price of the new 24-70 f4 over the msrp of the 24-105 for newer and much better macro makes it worthwhile. But if we compare market prices, not so much.

This macro mode isn't as great as the true focusing ring macro, but at 0.7x magnification it's pretty useful

Above I posted the rumour page that stated the 24-70 f4 is to have an MFD of .2m. This Canon UK specification page states an MFD of .38m, the same as the 24-70 Mk I. If I see any clarification which is true I'll post it. Obviously put your money on the Canon page having the correct specification.

From the Canon page:
Quote:
A separate macro position on the zoom ring enables close focusing down to just 0.38m at any zoom position, and a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.7x life size.

24-70 f4 IS sample images and specs.

35 f2 IS sample images and specs.

Popular Photography Magazine rates the 5DIII Camera of the Year!

Huh. I thought the D800 would have all the year end honours in the bag. Not that the 5DIII isn't great...I still think it's overpriced. Yes, even with the recent price drops.

Technically there's no good reason why not. Do I want one? Meh. Do I want to see how much the manufacturers will charge for something so simple that I don't care that much for? No. I have no desire to pay an extra $300-$400, or more, for my camera to do something poorly, or even acceptably, that my phone does well.

Speaking of over-priced meh, here is a 6D review from The Digital Picture.

... The correlation between the cost/value of phones and the cost/value of cameras is beyond me other than your bias against Apple. No matter what an iPhone costs the 6D is still poorly spec'd against not only it's competition but also previous Canon cameras.

Well, not all people choose cameras by specs, some actually consider what they need them for ;)

You can't honestly be suggesting that I am choosing by spec without considering use after all the conversations we have had on this topic.

Canon Rumours claims 24-70 2.8 IS is still a possibility with a working prototype in the wild.

I want this to be true... Who knows what they'll ask for it though.
