Huh, was wondering when someone was going to finally mention the upcoming Sony camera with a Nikon label on it... ;) I have a hunch that's kind of what's going to come along... It will be interesting to watch what actually arrives...

In looks. In guts I think it will be pretty similar to that new Sony.

Minus the megapixels, EVF, and flexible lens mount :)

At least it will have a menu system that I find somewhat intuitive

some are also saying more like a digital version of the FM2.... we'll see! November 5th is the reported release date.

Pentaprism looks quite a bit like FM/FE series but the rest of the body is quite a bit chunkier. If it is actually a D4 sensor in the body you can consider my interest piqued.

Teaser video number 5 show a lot of the ergonomics

Here's a crazy idea for the pure photography. Why not skip the big LCD altogether and just make the small top one show the histogram instead

Because the notion of "pure photography" is far more meaningful than marketing claptrap....

If you are going retro and bringing out a retro style lens why no aperture ring? It would be easy to add. In my view one of the best things on the fuji retro x-series is the aperture ring on the lenses!

I think I see the aperture feeler, so it might be compatible. Will have to wait until things settle down and we get the full specs.

I'm actually somewhat interested -- will have to compare feature-wise to the D610 to justify the extra $800 (difference should be less by the spring when I am prepared to decide). Somewhat relieved to see "only" 16MP. However, it was never my plan to go FX (not digitally anyway), and there's a lack of popup flash (for controlling my other flashes).

At least it can use a cable release. It doesn't seen too different from my FE2 shutter.

Feature for feature, I don't see a price justification between it and a D610. I think I'll end up staying crop this coming spring.

Kai is unimpressed. Say what you will about his arsing about, but when he talks about usability he's usually bang on. Of course, it's criticism that's easily dismissed because "I never use it that way anyway" or some other empty confirmation bias. A shame such a good sensor is stuck in such a silly camera. Inside of a D300 body... now that would be something good. Pointing out that the D300 is a crop camera and blah blah blah means you're missing my point.

Almost 2 weeks into using my new Df ... and I am happy to report that this camera is a keeper! When I got to play with one finally about a month ago, I knew I had to get one, so I sold off a few non used items, and low and behold, I picked up a brand new Df - body only, for quite a lower price than the list. Downtown Camera had a very attractive in-store price. And no - they are not grey market - they are legit Canadian Nikon bodies.

I took the camera to Algonquin over the January 10-12 weekend, and put her through the cold weather test - the battery was quite robust, and lasted the majority of the weekend. There was some learning curve as to the layout of the buttons, and getting used to changing aperture/shutter speeds, etc.... and I have to say, that I am very impressed with the 1/3 mode for changing shutter speeds.

Image quality is excellent - given that this camera is half the resolution of my D800 ... but more than sufficiently good enough for printing and facebook :) I have been working on a small series of photo's that I am going to present this coming Thursday night.

The wireless WU1a adapter works well with my ipad, and I love that capability to shoot tethered to my mobile device, or more importantly, the capability to upload, edit, and post images without having to dump the card to a computer.

I think in all, the Df is a misunderstood body. For me, you have to look past the fact that its not a digital FM/FE -- and its not a DSLR. It is a fusion of old and new.

Big focusing issues using Tamron 150-600mm on a Nikon D7000. Lens was sent back to Amplis and they were supposed to have done an 'adjustment"! I had a Sigma 150-500mm and never had any issues. They are trying to tell me it is my technique even after adjustments but I used same settings as I had with Sigma lens and never had problems. Don't know if I upgraded camera if that would make a difference or not!
