like I posted in another forum where this was also posted: I kinda suspect the 'friend' who 'donated' the 7D could have been a sales rep dumping a semi-functioning return...

Does not mean any less for the durability though. The ice block treatment was just amazing.

Entertaining, sure but its not really practical.

Phase freezing their back and testing it afterwards.

I disagree completely. While it's not measured abuse it is considerable abuse that shows the camera to be considerably durable. That is practical information.

Didn't Kai pour mustard all over a D700 or something a year or so ago?

Apparently a Nikon D4 and 600 mm are pretty tough too.

Amazing, would never do that to mine though. Almost cried when he "accidentally" when he set it on fire.

With no other cameras given the same controlled test all it proves is that cameras in general may or may not survive random stunts. Is the 7D average durability? Who knows? I have seen PS cameras survive freak accidents too.

Sadly after all of the stunts. The only test for functionality was that the shutter clicked and that the sensor showed the presence of photons. That for me says absolutely nothing. Personally, I want solid image capturing performance or I would consider the test a fail.

Missing the point. It clearly displays a durability and there was an image taken with it at the end.

Durability is a relative term. Im only hinting that more cameras then you realize would fair similarly to the 7D in those tests.

As much as I enjoyed the video, a fuzzy image does not illustrate durability to me – hence relative nature of durability. If that makes me a nerd... I'm cool with that. Next time someone here complains about a spec on the sensor I will avoid comment :/

If a DSLR is dropped isn't the lens more likely to break than the body?
