That's good to know. Should I call them first or drop in is ok? Also, how did they get it back to you? Thanks!

you might want to check your viewfinder after you get your camera back.

while i was standing in line there in Miss. a customer was picking up his camera. He looked into the viewfinder and said, "it's worse than before!". The sales person politely said, "we don't work in a dust free environment".

Best of luck.

Dust isnt the problem. Its sticky oil on the sensor that wont come off easily without actually getting involved with the film covering the sensor. If camera is under warranty and you screw up the film then youre screwed. Just leave it to the pros, at least until the warranty is up. Once the mirror assembly is changed the problem is gone.

I'm considering purchasing a D7000 in the near future & just came across this older thread. Does anyone know if this is still a problem with the current run of D7000's? It wouldn't keep me from purchasing one but am just curious if this is something I will have to deal with shortly after purchasing one. Also, how many cleanings did it take to finally stop the excess oil from appearing on the sensor?

I had the exact problem 3 months ago and carefully wet cleaned the sensor using the Visible Dust sensor swabs. 1.6 size. Worked perfectly and have had no problems since.

Sounds like Nikon has a lot of dirt and dust problems. Doesn't seem like Canon has as much of these problems. When I got my D70s the first thing I noticed was how much dust it attracted compared to the Nikon film camera I had. Then there was the residual dirt in the lens from manufacturing. Of course the D600 sensor has dust problems.

Nikon is taking some flak for their QA issues these days. Though Canon has not had quite as many they have not been immune (remember the 5DIII light leak?).

Yes Canon has had different QA problems. They both have major QA problems. Ship them out first and fix them later seems to be the policy. But what sticks out with me most about Nikon since it went digital is the dust and dirt problem. The main reason I switched.
