It's more a bunch of small vendors (some large ones too) selling their used / old equipment - I don't recall ever seeing a bunch of new gear (maybe "new old stock") for sale.

If you're lucky you may find something unique.

It's not just for film folks but film folks do have the "upper hand" imho at these shows since the gear is usually "geared" (pardon the pun) towards them.

Cheers,
Dave

I am sure there will be quite a few used and new ones.
If you just looking for "a" tripod, then you almost guarantee to find a bargain (but then "BUY" forum on TPMG will provide no less opportunities for good used gear).
However, if you need specific tripod for specific purpose, then you should check internet and local retailers.

The last time I went to one of the PHSC Fairs at the Soccer Centre sales there was a booth there with SIRUI tripods (back in 2010). The tripods are a new line from China (sort of Benbo like) and the booth was set up by the Canadian distributor.

Not super cheap, but I have been using one for about a year and it has been pretty good. No problems with the parts or the way it is made so far.

The shows I mentioned above are basically a "flea Market" or multiple "garage sales" all in one large room (or soccer field). You never know what, or WHO is going to be there, but there are regular vendors who attend both events.

Most of the stuff there is used, some of it antique, although there are usually a couple of vendors selling new stuff (like Phottix stuff).

You won't find Henry's, Vistek, or Downtown camera there (although you may bump into some of their staff visiting the show).

To get an idea, here's some pictures from a previous PHSC show:
http://www.phsc.ca/fairs.html

Now if you're looking for a new tripod at a possibly slightly reduced price (maybe), you should check out Henry's photography show, but it's ALL Henry's. There's no date posted for it yet, but it's usually the around the October 14-16 or 21-23 weekends, and that's usually at the International Centre.

Don't forget the camera show on Sunday Sept. 18, 10am-3pm...details above.

Note that the Terry Fox run is taking place as well during that date...I've yet to find maps of the event to see what travel points are affected.

Also the subway is closed from Bloor to Eglinton. There is bus service replacing the subway, however there's also east-west bus service along Eglinton W & Lawrence W.

Well, for those with cars and have easy access to 401, it's not so bad. Go along 401, head south (say on Yonge, Bayview, Victoria Park etc.) and then turn on Eglinton. Besides, DVP is generally busy from 401 to Wynford regardless.

The drive down Leslie was pretty good today.

For me it was riding the bus from 500 Eglinton E to 1250 Eglinton E!

Although there was a bit of walking uphill to the hotel.

No big purchases this time though since the dealers left the best stuff at home due to the lack of space in the smaller venue...just a couple of cheap flash meters and a replacement laptop power supply.

Looking forward to "The Big One" in two weeks!

new location>thornhil by a country mile.

stuff for sale wasn't too bad. abe had the usual film deals. one table had some nice zone vi safelights. being easier to get to is a big plus

if it is smaller, could work out better so it's not really competing with the Big One.

I came away with a minty-mint Oly OM2n with leather case and motor drive, OM 50mm f1.4 and Tokina 28-70 zoom. Pretty pleased considering I usually come away with nothing but film.

these shows are bad for our financial health, hehe. i was just gonna see what the big fuzz about these shows and it's pretty close to me. long story short, i bought a mint condition Canon Elan 7 body. i know it's not old enough for some but i'm pretty happy for my new-ish toy.

I was looking at that kit too for a long time, since I have a few Oly film lenses for my Oly digital...but I just couldn't justify buying a new film camera when I have several (non-Oly) sitting around collecting dust, not to mention all the digitals I have.

(For me) the next show will be better. I have a stereo card viewer, but the wood is splitting and I want to see if I can find one in better shape (I asked the guy who normally had them, but he didn't bring them this time due to the smaller venue/less space (although he did have the cards there).

12 days, 18 hours, 25 minutes, 48 seconds!!!
