Hey folks:

I'm new to this forum. Thanks in advance for the welcome.

I've got a 1Ds Mk 3 that has BARELY been used (10-20 actuations, total), and is as close to being new and sealed in the box as you can possibly get. Body was purchased about a month ago. The reason I'm selling is because I don't have the lenses needed to really make use of this body's capabilities, so it would be a waste to say the least.

Considering that you can't get one new in Canada for under 8400 after taxes, I was thinking of being generous and asking $6500 for it. Wondering what anyone thinks about how reasonable that asking price is, and if not, what they would be asking instead.

Thanks.

That's very good price for a unit that's only a month old and only 20 odd actuations. Even considering BHPhoto sells them for $6500.USD, you might get a better chance of selling it on Fredmiranda.com but it'll cost you a 1 month subscription fee of $15.USD which is nothing if you get it sold.

$6500.CDN = $5900.USD approx that's $600.USD off BH Photo not too shabby. Even better yet if you sell it to someone in Canada with warranty.

Keep in mind, though, that B&H is a US company, and you will have to pay tax on top of that when it comes over the border. This will add almost $1000US onto that price.

At the givven condition I say you could easily sell it on Craigslist/Kijiji for more than $6500, provided someone needs it of course :D

That is a very good price. Someone who is looking for one would probably jump all over it...

Less is more.

Might be a good deal from the sticker price but I'd rather get 5D Mk II (if full frame is a must), 1D Mk III non-S, or even wait for 1D Mk IV.

Anyway, good luck with the sale whenever or wherever you decide to sell it.

But why not just take it back to where you bought it? Assuming you bought the 5DII from the same place and most reputable authorized reseller should have a return/exchange policy...

If it's any help, I sold my 5 month old (at the time) 1Ds MK3 /w 4,013 shutter clicks a couple of months back. Mine came with the original invoice and an extended warranty plan. I got $6200.00 for mine.

hmmm... so you spent $8K on a camera and decided to sell it for $6500 after a month because you don't have any good lenses to use it with? Do you ship to Nigeria? I know there are a lot of interest form over there. :LOL

No idea what the market is for a lightly used 1DMkIII however, understand that TPMG is a rather tight community and as such, members tend to be suspicious of newly registered members who are selling $6500-8500 cameras.

If you're serious about selling this camera, I would suggest that you try CL, Kijiji or attend the next TPMG social in person (bring your receipts) and introduce yourself. You will not be permitted to post an ad in the classifieds until you've spent sometime on TPMG and even then are unlikely to find a buyers on TPMG until//unless you've earned the trust of the community.

Good luck with your sale and hopefully you'll hang around a bit. We need more owners of $8000 cameras around here ;P.

remembered he said he doesn't have the appropriate lenses to use for that camera so he is downgrading to a 5dmkII

everyone knows the 5dmkII uses different lenses than the 1DsmkIII....!

Thanks for the help/info guys.

The truth is, I'm new to SLRs, and I got a REALLY good deal on it, so much so that I was willing to spend money that I really didn't have. I was aiming originally aiming to purchase the 50D, but I saw this on Kijiji and couldn't help myself (It's the TOP of the line! Literally!).

So, I wouldn't be too upset if I'm stuck with it (obviously), I just wouldn't be able to use all those AF points right off the bat. I'll see if there's any interest, and if so, I'd like to downgrade to a lower model (5D2) and use the extra money to buy some nice lenses. That's all.

Sorry if this has all sounded vague and suspicious. I'm not meaning to.

Thanks for the advice, and I hope to post for years to come!

What's the dot color on yours? The price would differ between those two.

Did the 1Ds Mark III have the same defective mirror box like the 1D Mark III? The original 1D (not 100% on the 1Ds) had AF issues due to a defective mirror box assembly and required it to be replaced by Canon. Canon repaired whatever stock they had and marked the repaired units with a blue dot sticker on the box.

The bodies have a dot on the right side. That's in between your hand grip and the lens attachment. Either yellow or blue.

Yeah I"ve been reading threads about this. It's a factory assembly problem.

So, is the dot on the box or on the camera body?

I was told on the box but I could be wrong. I bought mine before they announced the problem.

this isn't a scam really...i've seen 1ds mark III's go for $6500-$7000 + tax

or maybe he bought it from the US when the dollar was good...the best discount i can get is $7500 + tax but i'm sure i can get it cheaper if i worked harder to find it
