I was at my local Henry's today and saw this little guy and thought it was pretty neat. Has anyone had the experience of using this thing? The price seems little high for a small octobox.

Doesn't that contraption in the middle block a good chunk of light? My 30" beauty dish has a reflector there.

Yea I was wondering how much that would affect the light. But I guess it's a trade off for the umbrella frame its built on.

I was actually interested in getting a beauty dish but I couldn't find one for a strobe. I might just end up DIYing it haha.

Or just get a beauty dish and DIY an L bracket for the strobe.

I would think that configuration would block a lot of light unnecessarily. I think the Wescott Apollo makes a lot more sense - works with small speedlites and strobes.

I was thinking of grabbing this one too. It's was cheaper than the firefly AND it came as a kit. The only thing that's stopping me from buying it is the inability to tilt it up or down...

It's actually not that a big a deal since these are small softboxes it's not likely you will be raising it that high that you would need to tilt down. If you need it to be really angled down then you probably should be using a dedicated boom arm anyway.
