My wife was using her point-n-shoot last weekend. She took a lot of photos and even looked at them on the camera. Then she went to take a photo and the camera said "Memory card error card locked", and would not allow her to take any more photos.

The SD card's tab was not in the 'lock' position. And now my computer won't even recognize it. How do I get the photos off the card?

If you're not even able to read the corrupted SD card on the computer, most likely the card is shot and there is no way to retrieve the data off of it. I had a CF card that slowly degraded to the point I was able to get 90% of the pictures then the card became unusable. No recovery software helped because the computer didn't even recognize the card to begin with.

On a similar note (I'm kinda hijacking my own thread) - How do know if your cards (SD or CF) are beginning to fail? Is there a test you can do?
