Looking for recommendations for a sturdy light stand and boom arm that will be used with an AB1600, beauty dish, octabox, softbox, etc.

I have looked at the recommendations for the boom arm under the other Boom Arm thread, but would like some recommendations on light stand and boom arm combos.

Thanks

I have the Manfrotto boom arm and stand combo that was initially mentioned in that thread and have used it successfully with an AB800 and their HO beauty dish.

I've got the Manfrotto equivalent to the Avenger A4039CS Combi-Boom Stand. A friend of mine picked it up from BH Photo for me when he drove down to NY last fall. It's all steel and pretty hefty. One of the legs is adjustable for uneven ground.

With something like a boom stand, lightest might not be the best thing esp if you're hanging heavy softboxes and monolights plus a sandbag counter weight on it. It has a 13lb weight capacity. Not sure how much it costs up here.

What is the model or if you could supply a link to the B&H site that would be great.

With the dollar doing quite well, I might drive down to NY and pick one up from B&H.

This is the Avenger model. I'll have to check the stand when I get home to see which model it is.

I'd recommend getting the casters. Trying to reposition a boom arm with all that weight is a pain. I'm kicking myself for not getting them, well until the next BH order.

If it is the same size as the Avenger you mentioned, it would model 420NSB:

Cheers,

Unless BH has a typo, that boom stand only supports a couple pounds? That's a lot cheaper than what I paid for mine.

I believe there are many versions. I just pointed out the one that was the same size as the Avenger. Here's the selection:

(just look for the ones that say "combi" or "convertible").

I have a couple of Manfrotto Avenger stands ... and they are wonderful lightweight solutions. but I also use them with 4 sourcefour's mounted on a t-bar aluminum pipe, which is attached to a 2K spigot with 1/2 chesborough attached.

My others stands range from various lightweight manfrotto stands, but then I have 2 of the 083 heavy duty stands which can hold up to 150 lbs of gear on them.

I looked up my boom stand and it turns out that it's an Avenger A470 model. I thought it was the Manfrotto one because the sandbag that came with is it labeled as Manfrotto.

This is the replacement version:
