Who here has done the copper hill method on a 5D?

I just ordered mine from copper hill images, but I think they may have shipped the Eclipse solution instead of the E2 solution. I wonder if the E2 is THAT different from the eclipse? (since apparently the E2 solution is suppose to prevent the tin oxide coating from corroding like if you use the Eclipse solution)

And who here wagers I'll damage my filter trying such a 'dangerous' game as trying to clean the sensor himself?

Done it, do it, and will continue to do it.

The first time cleaning your sensor might be a bit nerve wracking, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be fine. Just read the instructions twice before you start to make sure you know exactly what you are going to do.

I'm not sure what'll happen with the regular Eclipse on the 5D...but its better to be safe than sorry?

Well, the copper hill images guy just told me that my 5D can take normal eclipse liquid because mine wasn't part of the batch that had the defective coatings.

Oh well, It's coming in at the end of this week...which is unfortunate as I should be shooting a rehearsal dinner for a friend. But I guess that's out of the question given how much gunk is on the sensor right now.

I have the CopperHill kit at home (including the LED magnifier) and would be willing to lend you a hand before your kit shows up. Shoot me a PM if you can make it to the Mississauga/Brampton area.

Hi 13inches. Thanks for the offer, but unfortunately, this week is crazy busy. Monday is prep for fittings, Tuesday is bachelor party and Wednesday is rehearsal. Thursday is more prep work. Friday's the actual wedding.

Oh well, at least low aperture portrait shots won't be too affected =).

I really do appreciate the offer though, especially since I would have at least someone that's already done the swipes once rather than tackling it on by myself the first time around. =)

There's nothing to it if you follow the instructions.

If it's your first time, be prepared to do it a few times before you get it right. (that's what she said)

E2 is available at Vistek.

Used copperhill for years on my EOS 20D, typically cleaning it once every two weeks. No issues.

Hello
I took my 5D to canon for sensor cleaning and sub mirror fix,
They said a new main mirror fix issue came two weeks back and they take all the 5D mark 1's and replace the main mirror and clean the CMOS sensor and ship it back to you for free, I got it one day shipped back
I really dont want to deal with the sensor cleaning myself...may be next time
Hope it helps
Cheers
Yeshwanth

Bumping this old thread cuz I'm looking into sensor cleaning (specifically the SensorSwab and CopperHill method) and have a few questions that hopefully someone here can clear up.

So the actual products (SensorSwab, Pec Pad, Eclipse, E2, which, by the way, is discontinued) are manufactured by Photographic Solutions (http://www.photosol.com) and CopperHill (http://www.copperhillimages.com) is just a reseller?

The basis of the CopperHill method is to use the (much cheaper) Pec Pads to clean sensor (both CCD/CMOS) while Photographic Solutions specifically warn AGAINST doing this.

http://www.photosol.com/padproduct.htm
Quote:
PEC*PAD is not recom-mended for cleaning the CCD. It is not the same material used in the Sensor Swabs. PSI does not approve or warranty the CCD or any camera part from any damage caused by using non approved products.

So what's the deal?

And does anyone know of any local stores that carry these?

Thanks in advance.

In the end I just bought it off copperhill and did it myself.

I think Photographic Solutions disclaimer has to be there just to prevent liability, because then they can claim they told you not to use that.

As for effectiveness, it seems fine. But as with all DIY projects, it's all at your own risk. Seems okay. Your sensor's just a piece of silicon with a UV shield and microlenses on it. Just make sure you do it in the right steps and it should be fine.

I use the Eclipse E2 solution and Senor swabs. I am down to my last sensor swab and have been looking for a more economical way to clean the sensor.

I noticed the Eclipse 2 solution is no longer listed at http://www.photosol.com/products.htm.

I sent an email to Copperhill and Nicholas R. responded.

He stated that
