I've got some frames (and will be buying more) for some work and I'm looking for the thick kraft paper that's used on the back of the frames.

I'm not sure where to go to snag that sort of stuff; I've got some stuff from Staples / The Business Despot but it's too thin for the job.

Any ideas folks?

Thanks,
Dave

Our studio department orders rolls from Grand & Toy occasionally. Not sure what the weight of the paper is but seems pretty thick.

Hmm.. Above Ground is near to work so I'll give them a shot.

The Grand & Toy suggestion, while it may be good, leads me to think it's going to be like the Staples stuff I have. Good for wrapping packages to mail but too "flimsy" / "thin" to use as a backing for a frame.

Thanks,
Dave

yes, art supply stores usually have this type of paper in rolls or smaller pads.

Many artists use it for quick sketching, it's cheap, big, and the brown shade responds well to most sketching materials.

Funny, they also use it to wrap big purchases, other fine papers, canvas. It was my source of brown kraft paper for sketching, I even ironed some once to get pesky folds out.

Call Steve @ the Framing Depot 4156-445-5559, he does have 24", 36" and 48" rolls available. I'm sure he can organize something special for you and even supply you with the double-sided tape.

lol, he'll even train you in how to paper the back of your frame

cheers

You can get the stuff free with any purchase at your local Home Depot.
They usually have it by the exit on rolls... same stuff as Ikea...
Of course this is not ideal for large quantities as you may get funny looks,
but it's there for you.

Otherwise, you can purchase the rolls of it from local Art supply shops like the mentioned Aboveground, Currys, and Deserres (formerly Loomis Art Store)... most will sell by the length or by the roll in small or large sizes, and typically available in 18", 24", 30", 36" and 40" widths. They aren't expensive.

For framing, they don't have to be "thick". It should not be used for structure... but only to keep out dust and bugs... and aesthetic purposes.

Use 3M's ATG[924] reverse-wound tape (rubber cement tape) to mount, and depending on your comfort/skill level, a blade or sandpaper block to trim the edges after stretched on.

Have fun!
