My bro-in-law checked with Nikon and it's $50. for them to clean your sensor.

$50 can get you a cleaning kit that would would be good for more than one clean.

Once I tried to clean some dust from my old 10D sensor that turned out to be a oil spec. I had to run back out to buy more $30 swabs. Cost me $70 odd dollars to do a self-clean. Then again, this was 6 odd years ago. :P

I've been told that if you sensor has not been cleaned previously, it's a good idea to have it cleaned for the first time professionally. I understand that, in addition to dirt, there may be some lubricant from the mirror box that's left over from manufacturing, and that's difficult to remove. After the first time, cleaning it yourself is much easier. However, as I mentioned in an earlier posting, having the sensor professionally cleaned does not guarantee that it will be done properly. You still have to check it afterwards.

I am thinking of bringing my 5d2 to Canon Mississauga to clean the sensor and prism.

Do they still charge $40? Has anyone gone to them for service recently? Any comments?

I had them do the recall on my 5Dc and replace the USM motor in my 24-70 last November. No problems, quick turnaround, same service I've always got from them.

I was :( at the repair price on the 24-70 though
