Just as the subject states, has anyone here bought a Canon 5DII off Ebay? After shipping and exchange rate, its almost $500 cheaper than stores here. And if you can beat the boarder tax you'd be way ahead.
I usually stick to CL for my camera purchases, I'm just wondering on people's experiences on Ebay.

Thanks.

Buy from the ebay photo stores (power sellers), read everything carefully, look at the user's history (especially deals with the item), use paypal.

If I recall correctly, Canon Canada will only honour the warranty if the item is purchased in either Canada or the US (ie.: the warranty card states US and/or Canada) but for grey-market items, Canon will not honour these (ie.: imported from Asia).

Generally photo gear is duty/customs free. I've never been charged duties or customs for lenses etc that I've bought from the US. My friend made drove to NY and picked up a beautydish, boomstand and other accessories for me worth over $600.USD and he declared it with customs guy at the border. They told him, drive on thru and have a great day... Guess he/I got lucky 'cause they didn't bother charging him GST.

Give Raymond up at Amazing Photo a call (905-947-8998) and see what kind of pricing he can get you. I saved over $300 when I got my unit from him compared to all the other GTA stores. He is an authorized Nikon and Canon dealer. Not sure if I'm getting a friend & family discount but for peace of mind, I'd rather buy a $3000 camera body locally for warranty/service and peace of mind knowing I can walk back into the store if I had a problem with it.

FYI: There was a recall on the earlier 5D Mark II units with their mirrors falling off.

I know about the mirror recall on the 5D but is there one for the MKII as well? Could you please post a link?

Focusing screen or mirror? Huge difference. The focusing screen on the 5dm2 is user replaceable, so it does come off.

no idea, but it was some inside screw and a piece of something, I believe. I'll stop now, since I really don't know what exactly :D

Thats awesome, thanks for all the input.
I forgot about Buffalo. I was there two weeks ago. I never really think of buying camera gear there. When I think NY State and camera's I think NYC (B&H, Adorama, etc).
If I ever decide to splurge and get the Mark II, I'll definitely call Amazing Photo to see what they've got to offer.

I tried to find a link but I think I'm mixing up a thread I read on another forum. There was a recall on the 5D original for the mirror but none for the Mark II. I did read a couple instances of users having the mirror fall off their Mark II units.

I had my first 5D (classic) purchased from an eBay seller in the US for a new body, and had no issues registering it on Canon's website. Even got an email for the mirror fix on it.

That's a very reassuring story. Thanks!
