I've seen some mixed feedback on this lens, but I must the wide end on FF @ 12mm is very intriguing. If anyone here does have it, what is the widest that you use on it with successful results.

Thx,
Alan

I've got one on my 5DII

tbh though, I'm not much of a pixel peeper and don't care too much for sharpness so I can't really answer your question. In fact, this was one of the first lenses I bought so its not very well taken care of to be honest...

I don't have any other wide angle lenses so if you look in my flickr or fotologue anything that seems "wide" is probably taken from the lens...

I know that chris (Hotwire) uses one on his Alpha A900. I use the 14-24 Nikkor on my D700.

I have this lens in Nikon mount though I don't have a FF digital body. I have shot it on a film body from time to time.

Here are some old photos with this lens:

Most of these were shot when I first got the lens. At that time I liked these shots, but now I'd be more picky about these shots. It's tricky to use in that you need to be careful not to got odd distortions, etc.

I know that photoblogger Sam Javanrouh of http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/ (aka Daily Dose of Imagery) often uses this lens on a 5D and 5D Mark II.

Surprisingly I don't have that much with this lens, probably cause it's taken a back seat to the 16-35/2.8 on the a900. This search link appears to work on my computer, using some of the hidden flickr search parameters. Pretty much I only ever use this lens at 12mm.

A900 (full frame):

Maxxum 9 (film):

(If anyone is wondering how I can get exif from film, do a google search for Minolta DM-9)

A700 (crop sensor):

For more info on the obscure search parameters I'm using, check out:

Thanks for the feedback guys, it is appreciated.

Seems that this lens may not be that popular for a reason. I'll stick with the 17-40L that I have in my arsenal for now and be content with that.

A favourite of mine on a 1ds3. I have a decent copy - but there is a lot of variability between copies. Best would be to take you camera in and try some shots in the store, and switch if needed.

I have the Sigma 12-24mm for my D700's, but to be honest, I only bought it because I needed something wider than my 24-70/2.8 for the very few times I would use it. If I were more of a wide angle shooter, I would have picked up the amazing Nikkor 14-24/2.8, but at $2000 a pop, I couldn't justify the expenditure. I picked up the Sigma for $680 on eBay, so about one-third that of the 14-24.

It's an f/4.5-5.6 lens, but since most of my ultrawide shots tend to be outside in sunlight, the smaller aperture isn't usually a problem. The D700's superior noise control also helps in less-than-bright conditions.

I use the Oly Zuiko 18mm 3.5 on my 5D MKII when the 24-70L is not wide enough. It is quite good and costs around $1K so it is "relatively" cheap when it comes to good ultra wide lenses.
