On various bodies and lens and adapters, I often need -1 to -2 EV with the faster lenses. I have the Katz-eye on my 300D, Haoda on my 20D but just the regular screens on the 1D series. I should get the matte one tho for the 1D.

You should get the Canon EC-L cross split for the 1D. It's fantastic because you don't have to turn the camera 90 degrees for horizontal parterns for focusing. A little pricy ($70-$80) but works wonderfully.

Thanks... the EC-L looks to be a lot cheaper from HK. I'll try that.

cog's been pretty busy with his lens conversion forum over at http://www.cogitech.ca/forum/index.php

Haven't seen him around much elsewhere of late.

And no, I don't even have a Rokkor 58, my 58 is the Voigtlander Nokton f1.4

The holidays are a busy time for me and it is true that I've also been busy with the new site, as well. (The official url is http://forum.cogitech.ca now, despite the fact that the old url still works.)

Regarding me "singlehandedly" creating the Rokkor buzz; I don't know. I am sure I played a role, but I did not invent the conversion process. Several others had done other variations before me. I simply offered the community an exhaustive howto http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html

The resurgence of popularity of the lens itself is due just as much to the excellent photographers who have used my howto to convert the lenses and have discovered how incredible it really is. Head over to FM and look for the "Alternative Image Thread". It is people like Anden, ovredahl73, ulrickft, Dim.ka, Leon Noel, etc. who are showing us why this lens is so worth the effort of conversion.

Regarding adapted/converted lenses that I use on my EOS bodies, my current list is:

--Tamron SP 17/3.5
--Zuiko 21/3.5
--Vivitar (Kiron) 28/2
--Vivitar (Komine) 28/2
--Zuiko 28/3.5
--Arsat 35/2.8 PCS (Shift)
--Minolta Rokkor 50/1.7
--Nikon Series E 50/1.8
--Minolta MC Rokkor 58/1.4
--Minolta MC Rokkor 58/1.2
--Minolta MC Rokkor 85/1.7
--Voigtlander 125/2.5 Macro-APO-Lanthar (native EOS, but manual focus)
--Canon FD 300/4 L
--Soligor 350/5.6
--Tamron 350/5.6 Mirror
--Minolta MD Rokkor-X 500/8 Mirror
--Zuiko 24-40/4
--Tamron SP 28-80/3.5-4.2
--Tamron SP 35-80/2.8-3.8
--Kiron MC 80-200/4.5

Current project is FD 85/1.2 SSC Aspherical.

Previous lenses include tons of Taks, Zuikos, Contax Zeiss... and a few Nikkors. Never owned a Leica.

I posted here a while back about the FD 300/4 L http://tpmg.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9476 and nobody seemed very interested...

For those of you who have not seen this in the other forums.

I completed the Canon FD 85/1.2 SSC Aspherical project last week.

Results speak for themselves:

Hey All,

I will be acquiring an Olympus OM 50mm f1.4 shortly. I am curious to know which adapter is recommended for using this lens with an Olympus E-510?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any cheap e-bay OM-EOS adapter will do.

Oly OM lenses are the most hassle-free to adapt. I have always bought the cheapies and have never had an issue.

Don't be confused with the reply above talking about an "OM-EOS" adapter since that's for Canon users...there are several choices like the expensive ones from olympus and Cameraquest, and there are ones that are cheaper on eBay. Avoid the REALLY cheap ones (some don't engage the aperture lever on the OM lens, so you have to press and hold the DOF preview button on the lens to take a picture).

There's also a "Dandylion" chip which allows for focus confirmation.

Check out Mr. Wrotniak's site as he has lots of good information about using legacy lenses on FourThirds:

Due to Nikon's relatively small lens mount diameter and long mount to film plane distance it is generally hard to adapt other mounts to Nikon F.

Canon EOS, however, has a rather large mount diameter and shorter mount to film plane distance so it is much easier to adapt other mounts to it.

Quite correct. I totally missed the mention of E-510. Sorry.

No site yet. It is a new art form :)

So far, every FD conversion I have done or seen is different from the next.

That is one sweet lens! Is the FD 85 1.2L also convertible? How big a job is that?

Yes, it is also convertible. I have not done it, but I converse regularly with someone who has done it. We figured out the 85/1.2 SSC Aspherical conversion together, across the globe.

It is a very big job.

The Rokkor conversion is simple in comparison. http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html

I have that lens and bought a Fotodiox adapter for it off eBay, and the only reason I had issues with it is because it didn't come with instructions. Once I figured out it was me not forcing it on the lens enough to lock down the aperture blades, I have not had to do anything with it since ... so well worth the $30 I paid. The company has its own site now and it looks like its about $28 USD plus shipping (which should be minimum). Here is the link for the adapter I have:

http://www.fotodiox.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=4135

People say that lens is soft and the F/1.8 is better. However, I have produced some awesome 8x10 prints from it shot wide open. Have fun :)

There were at least 5 (as many as 7 if you include coating variations) iterations of the Zuiko 50/1.4.

The sharpest ones have serial numbers above 1,100,000. I had one that was above 1,000,000 and it was pretty good too. Sold it after discovering the Rokkor 58/1.2.

Anyone have any opinions on the following OM to 4/3 adapter?

E-3s VF is good enough to do manual focusing.

So I figure I put this question in this thread, more for curiosity, and to answer a question posed to me by a friend:

When using an old K-mount or M42 screw mount lens on a modern pentax digital body, what exposure modes are available, etc?

I was under the impression that everything works, but would like someone to expand.
