Hello,

If I sent my Nikon D200 and 80-200 2.8D (2 ring) in for calibration could they sort out my backfocusing issue?

The lens is used so out of warranty, but it was damaged when I purchased it. The tripod collar was damaged so I guess it might have been dropped.

I took it in for repair at TCS and they fixed the collar, so all is fine now apart from the focusing issue. It is annoying as it's a fantastic lens when used in manual, but for sports I'd like to auto focus.

How much would it cost to send it and my D200 to Nikon Mississauga for calibration? Has anyone had lenses calibrated by Nikon and was it worth it?

Thanks

I used to have a 300mm AF-I which was sent into Nikon for aperature replacement, and calibration. I ended up paying around $160 for everything... but it might cost more in your case? They will do an estimate for you before beggining any repairs.

Be warned -- you will be without your camera and lens for several weeks! Sometimes it takes forever for Nikon Canada to do repairs.

Thanks!

I am kind of worried that they will hold onto it for a long period.

Although TCS did a decent job at fixing the lens, I don't believe they went into great depth with the "backfocus" issue... I presume Nikon will give it a full look over and replace internal parts that might have been affected by the suspected drop.

Unfortunately I have to wait 2 weeks before sending it as I have a engagement ceremony to shoot in the coming days. :(
