if you're looking at 'investing', the choice is quite simple, isn't it...

B+W MRC CPL $279.

The important issue with CP's is picking one made of brass so that it doesn't bind. Especially with the rotation inherent in a CP, if the threading sticks, it becomes a bastard and a half to get it off afterward.

Hence the B+W ones are awesome.

wouldn't you rather use pixelsensitive than maxsaver? The selections pretty much the same.

MRC have a hard coating
slim is good for wide angle to prevent vignetting although a bit of a gimmick as the nature of a polarizer is not constant across a wide angle because the angle of reflection changes. The slim are harder to use.

Kaesemann are the best optical quality while the normal are just very good.

When buying from maxstar make sure you get the brass body version. Some times the same store named HVSTAR on ebay is differently priced or has different promotional deals then the maxstar website

b+w all the way.

Like poster above, there is benefit/draw back to slim versions. Depends on what's important to you.

Saying you need brass is a bit of a wives tale.

Way back in the old days when anodizing had not been perfected, and the threads on your lens were not perfect either, then there was a potential problem with aluminum binding.

This is no longer the case, and paying extra for brass is a bit of a waste of your time and money. You are more likely to bind your filter by cross threading, and it wouldn't make any difference if you had brass or aluminum. it will be just as stuck.

If you are worried about your filter getting stuck.. go buy some conserviters wax from Lee Valley and put a thin coat on your finger, Run it around the inside of your lens thread. you will never have a stuck filter unless you cross thread.

The big hassle with B+W kassman thin filters are that they don't support a regular lens cap.. it comes with it's own slip on one, and they don't stay on all that well. I bought a Hoya HD and it's just a thin and takes a regular cap. Also cost less than B+W but works just as well IMO.

It used to be the same place, as Maxsaver used to be called HVSTAR earlier. Don't know if it still is. The difference is not there, it's just the same price, but one is less + more shipping, the other is higher price + less shipping. I could be wrong.

Yesh, I have both
B+W Kaesemann MRC SLIM Circular Polarizer Filter
B+W Kaesemann MRC Circular Polarizer Filter

one in 77 and one in 67, kaesemann also means durability

i've gotten all my filters from maxsaver.net through a few orders. service is great, once had a problem and they corrected it instantly without questions. maxsaver is customs friendly as well.

i have a 72mm slim B+W cpol for my 20/2.8. it vignettes when i stack it on my UV filter so i have to use it stand alone, so the slim doesn't provide any value for me.

if i had to get another, i'd get a MRC non-slim. MRC supposed to be more durable and maybe less reflective? with slim filters, u can't put ur lens cap on on top.
