Hey,
I'm looking to get insurance for a bit of camera equipment.. (~$5000-6500)
- Not business nor home insurance
- Not all of the equipment belongs to me, but will be loaned to me for several months if I have insurance
- I was hoping to have the loaned gear around town, too.. but I am traveling to Baffin Island for 6 weeks and need it then.. any travel insurance options?

Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Renter insurance? You can get a rider on a rental insurance the same as you get one on a home insurance.

As long as you're not considered a "professional" it can be covered under Home or Renters insurance. I believe I pay $220 a year for mine. You just have to call to confirm that anything you take on vacation with you is covered. It's a strange thing, having a laptop or camera covered when you take it OUT of your home, but after a few phone calls, I confirmed that my TD insurance covered it. I don't think Travel Insurance will cover camera equipment. I called a few travel insurance companies before going to Rio due to some safety/mugging/etc concerns and no one would cover my gear.

It ranges between $18-$25 a month for about $25K of coverage. I insured that my gear was covered for ANY circumstance, including my own clumsiness. :P The problem with Home/Renters insurance is that they won't let you get coverage for just a month or two. You have to commit to a year.

As for covering something you have borrowed. I'm not sure. That a tricky situation.

Yeah, I have my own gear as a rider on a house insurance policy, but am unable to put gear I'm borrowing on it.
