So the weather ruined my trip north but the upside I can now buy this http://www.vistek.ca/store/ProPhotoElin ... ories.aspx

Would appreciate any feedback on performance and quirks on the brand and kit.

I had the First version (sold now) and I loved them.

I had one unit fail on me as the circuit board fried but was the fanless and heat sinkless version......

Great starter lights and great control. Quick and easy to set up.

Good lights. A bit more consistent lighting than some other brand strobes I've used. Not as much fine tuning in wattage than the more pricey models but it gets the job done with power to spare. The nice thing is that they are digital so you can always dial back in your wattage to replicate a shoot easily and consistently.

The drawbacks are that you might find yourself upgrading the bundled softboxes later on, standard 8mm stem umbrellas don't fit and Elinchrom branded modifiers are expensive. Oh, and you can't use a Vagabond II for location shooting.

Thanks guys great info. Vagabond II/per strobe should be fine or is it a compatibility thing? Regardless, it's still a pain to carry 2 units to power both and the cost.

Yeah, I'm already looking at larger modifiers

Really appreciate your thoughts.

Some digital strobes don't work well with some portable power units. I know they didn't recommend the Vagabond II with some Elinchrom models. The only one that I know of that has been tested with Elinchrom lights is the Innovatronix Explorer XT SE (made to order) which is about $100 more than a Vagabon II. http://www.innovatronix.com/compatib.asp

It's made in Manila. This looks promising. Thanks for the link.

i use elinchroms and have been very happy with them. wonderful compliment of modifiers so you can really grow into your platform. as noted the 7mm shaft thing is a bummer, but note that phototek stuff will fit. also, i have invotronix portable pack and it works dandy with my elinchrom 400w and 600w lights on location. good luck and enjoy!

Would you consider the BX model? It's a step up and build quality is better and you can use more/larger modifiers.

Thanks Tony. I've decided to go with D Lite 4 kit. I haven't read anything bad at all with the brand except for the price.

The BX is a bit steep for me atm Haken. I don't really know where this is going but if there's an upgrade in the future, the existing strobes can always compliment my needs.

Thanks for your suggestions.
