Hey, I bought an SD card a month and a half ago (photo dimensions class 6 4GB card) and it's unfortunately my only card since that's all work is supplying me with at this point. Anyway, every time I've used it there's been at least one if not several corrupt images on the card. The photos look fine on the camera, and when I load the images the thumbnails look fine, but when I open up the RAW files in photoshop and in the Canon program the images have lines and blocks of neon colours. I've tried reuploading the images but nothing works. I know I need to just return the card and get a new one, but I'm not in town at the moment. I've saved a few of the photos I like that have been corrupt on the card and so I was wondering if there's anything I can do to salvage them?
Thanks!

i've had a few show up like that...nothing as yet has worked in salvaging them
definitely time for a new card

also, in the future remember to format the card "in-camera" after backing it up (uploading/saving pics to 'puter) and try not to delete pics from card thru the camera...delete them after transferring them to your 'puter

Yeah, I always do.. I was just trying to save a few of them in case there was a way to salvage the photos..

Well that sucks.

You can use Irfanview which will allow you to save the embedded JPG from the RAW file. I've used that to rescue a few shots when I had a power problem with my 1Dm2.

Sorry, I don't know of the mac equiv of Irfanview. Hopefully some mac users can chime in.

If the image is corrupted on the SD card, I doubt anything can really recover the image. Do what dant mentioned, stop using the card if you haven't and get a new one.

I would definitely suggest investing in a new memory card if possible.
When you take photos do you generally completely fill up the memory?
A lot of photographers suggest that you don't completely fill your memory card as a safety net.

If the thumbnails are fine as Holly has mentioned, then the embedded JPG is fine, it's just the RAW data that's buggered. The embedded JPG is surprising large too, on my 7D, it's a 18mp image, even on mRAW. The embedded jpg's that I rescued from my 1Dm2 were all 8mp and quality was decent and good enough for prints.

I found the following free utility for the Mac, but it's not Snow Leopard compatible.

http://rawworkflow.squarespace.com/inst ... w-utility/

You can also look for any utility that can extract the embedded JPEG from RAW files.

If irfanview will extract the image, what about installing wine and then installing irfanview?
