Hi all,

I just got a 135/2 off the used market and everything works perfectly with it from focus to IQ. The one thing that worries me is the focus ring which feels loose. Comparing to all the other lenses I have 70-200 17-40 50/1.4 this one is significantly different feeling. I don't know if this is normal for this lens since its older, please help!

I would say there is maybe 1/2 to 1/3 mm of "give" at the focus ring. Enough to create and audible but very quiet sound if you were to apply pressure back and forth on the ring.

The seller has great feedback and was accurate about all details of the transaction. He did say the lens was professionally cleaned, but I don't know what that means exactly.

I would appreciate it if anyone who owns this lens or had experience with it would be able to put my mind at ease.

Much appreciated.

Jon

I just found this post that describes the issue:

Any thoughts if this would cause problems in the future?

Mine rotates smoothly. I don't see any problems in which a loose focus ring creates. It was bought brand new with date code UW.

Thanks for the response ricyip! At least I know its not really normal now.

But just to clarify, it's not loose in the sense that it doesn't turn smoothly - the focus ring just isn't snug against the front and back of the lens.

Anyone know if this lens can be taken apart by a cleaner and put back together more "Snugly"?

Much appreciated

I suspect that the screws might be loose. I am just suggesting that there might be screws under the focus ring rubber that need to be tightened. My 135L does not have this problem, thankfully.
