here is a fine example of the poor garbage design in Argentinian ATMs. You'll notice it is aroungd the corner from the ATM - a design fault that results in much of the garbage not meeting it's intended target. In fact, I might add that the garbage design is so flawed that it failed to deter this poor homeless dog from daynapping in the ATM.
Taken at El Calafate, Argentina

You find the wierdest things in public garbage cans...like this one in Jaipur, India

Image

Wait a second, that's not a garbage can, it's a soup cauldron. Whatever it is, ya' find the strangest things when ya' travel.

and here is what the garbage can looks like in a fish market in the fringe of the hot Arabian desert.
Image

This was a oil drum filled to the gills (pun intended) with fish guts.
Taken in Tarim fish market - Tarim, Yemen

Fish guts! Sue you will have to step up your game!

I hope the one above the fish guts is not an indication of the local dietary habits.

Well, yes it is.....they don't eat the guts.....which is why they are in the garbage bin. It IS a garbage bin photo. it is an oil drum bin full to the gills/rim with fish guts. The sellers in the market gut them in the market in between sales.
Here's a rather young fishmonger selling the part they do eat - the gutted (no pun intended) fish.

Now to peruse my photos for more garbage....

I fear this may be the last of my 'garbages around the world' photos....

Anyone curious as to what garbage dumpsters in Amman, Jordan look like will be happy to see the following...

Image

Of interest is the wheels on the bottom - which means in the early morning you find them pushed to the most peculiar spots ...and who says there's no nightlife in Islamic countries?!?!

I guess this isn't so much a garbage can, as impromptu garbage disposal, otherwise known as laziness. But it still fits the overall theme I think.

For months now I have seen teh thread on garbage cans and shook my head. I got the concept of forcing yourself to shoot something, but garbage cans!!?? I just cringed every time there was a new post in this thread.

Well today I was out on my lunch and it was 15 and sunny in Collingwood. It was absolutly great outside. I am taking some pics of old building and the clock tower and just getting back into taking photos again after hibernation. I loved it!!! So as I am walking downtown collingwood snapping pics, what catches my eye? A freaking garbage can!!! and I took a picture of it and 2 other ones!!!!!!!!

I feel like I have drank the piglette Cool Aid now. So ashamed!! I will post them up when I get home tonight :D

I had the same initial reaction when I first read the posts in this thread. Until, of course, I looked at my own photos and saw how many I had that were garbage-related.

Maybe in our disposable throw-away society 'garbage photography' will become a new subgenre

What's the story?
As the weather heats up we are less inclined to get close to the garbage and photograph it?
