Call me crazy, but I find mine/exploration/construction sites fascinating and full of photo opportunities.
Not sure if anyone else is going to have photos of mining, exploration, construction, etc, but if you do, post them here...

I'll start with...blasting (Sabodala Gold Mine, Senegal, West Africa)

There's stuff ya don't see everyday. Cool. Good buddy and ex-coworker of mine works for Agnico Eagle. He gets to do pretty cool site visits. Lucky bugger!

Yeah, I'm a slave to the industry, as my day job, and eventually I'd like to put together enough photos to have an exhibit showing the impacts (both positive and negative) of mining, (including all scales from artisanal to large public companies).
Plus, I like the big digging equipment, it brings out the big kid in me...

No, but I do absent mindedly keep calling them Tonka Trucks and then have the other guys laugh at me

Hauling

CAT793 - Yanacocha mine, Peru
I got yelled at very sternly in Spanish for this one...
Image
...I was using a wide angle lens and apparently I walked up too close to the haul road where the trucks were motoring by at about 70km/hr so the safety dude went ballistic on me.

CAT785 - Rosebel mine, Suriname
Image

Dust - Sabodala mine, Senegal
Image
Dust...everywhere...that dust getting kicked up into the air, that's the present colour of all my shoes...and the top of my computer keyboard...and the outside of my backpacks...

Visible gold is actually the exception. Normally you get anywhere from 1 - 3 grams of gold per to tonne of ore...1 gram per TONNE...and yet its still profitable. Crazy

Sorry there's no BOOM with this mining operation. Low tech sulfur mining done with metal rods.

As bad as the smell is, the eye balls burning is harsh. I had to descend with a gas mask.
The workers are superhuman - they carry weights equal to their own body weight UP the volcano crater, many WITHOUT gas mask, an wearing only flip flops.
